I'm got my first "V" lens for the Hasselblad X2D 55mm f/2.5 lens.

I find the 'Control Ring' on the helicoid very useful and I understand how to use ISO, Shutter Speed, and Aperture well enough.

However, I don't understand 'EV' and 'Exposure Compensation' if those are two different things.

I would appreciate an introduction please.

Traveling now without a V lens in front of me.
EV Exposure Value is an old Hasselblad measure. Once set, you used to be able to rotate the f stop and shutter speed dials together once locked on the lens in order to change one of parameters (SS or f stop) without affecting actual exposure.

Exposure Compensation is where you can dial in over or under exposure to your image usually in f stop increments.

I understand that. What I am wondering is how that works with the control ring on the XCD 55mm. I try it and see nothing change. I know I am missing something here, but what?

What do you mean "I try it and see nothing change"? Have you locked the SS and f stop dials? If so, then spin it to use whatever SS or f stop you want.

“V lens” too general to answer your question. Completely different mechanics on them depending on what series. The earlier ones, “C”, lock by themselves. Later CF, etc, you have to depress a button on the lens as you rotate to keep the EV locked. What lens is it?

As the other person said, it was a way to keep the exposure consistent as you changed preferences for aperture or shutter speed.

As to exposure compensation, I can’t answer that one.

No, this is about the new XCD V lenses for the Hasselblad X mount. All digital.

It says EV but as far as I can tell it behaves like Exposure Compensation, at least in A and S mode.

In manual it does nothing. In PAS modes it’s exposure compensation.

Which body? Older bodies need firmware updates to enable the control ring.
