I've had my 24-90 since 2016. Not sure I'd buy it now over the 24-105. Weight is the main thing, but I can have a couple of *i* primes as well and spend less. The more I use the Panasonic the more I like it.

Thanks, any thoughts on how the 24-105 compares to the Nikon 24-120? I primarily shoot landscapes and travel these days. I’ve pretty much decided that I will shoot with full frame and medium format, for full frame it will be either the SL3 or Nikon (Z7ii/Z8 + ZF). The Nikon is tempting because it might leave room in the budget to swap the GFX system for the X2D with 1 or 2 native lenses, adapt on the wide and long end.

I do not own the 24-120, unfortunately.

Fred,

Thank you. This was really the right question. Over the last 10 days or so I've asked what cameras am I really using? What am I not. That's easy. I'm using the M, the Sl3 and R5. I love the Q. I'm not using it. The M is a Q without autofocus but with interchangeable lenses. The SL2-S is a low light monster. The SL3 is pretty good at 10000 iso and a gentle dose of denoise makes that look like 6400 without much quality impact. The R5 is not going anywhere because I need it's AF for my other interests.. So, I've got my answer. Sell the SL2-S and Q3.

Thanks again!

You might already know the answer to this, as asking others could just make things more confusing.

Which camera do you use most often, and which one do you use the least? Are there any overlaps in your gear? Are you satisfied with the output from the SL2-S, or do you prefer the SL3? Choose the one you prefer and stick with it. Do you use the Q often or rarely? If it’s the latter, maybe you don’t need it.

Do you need another camera format, or can you stick with Leica? If you prefer the Canon system, perhaps the SL

I'm glad you figured it out. Sometimes, doing nothing can make things worse, especially as gear keeps piling up!

I “validate” your decision. I do not own a Q, but, believe that I, too, would have considered the Q to be an “odd one out.”

I would always keep at least one M camera, in any down-sizing thought exercise. One specific Leica M lens is responsible for pulling me into the Leica world, and, thus far, it remains the undisputed favorite.

Not having yet bought into the SL-series, I am neutral on that part.

I empathize with the struggle to make the decisions. I know that I should down-size the lens accumulation, but, logic tells me that two or three of my long-time grail-quest lenses should be the first to go, because their weight and bulk are such major factors in their not being used. (DSLR “super-telephoto” lenses.) If we do not make it to Rockport, Texas, THIS year, to photograph the wintering Whooping Cranes, then, really, all of our large, heavy, fast-aperture, fast-AF-ing wildlife lenses should go, no matter how much we love them.

It's funny to read stuff like "The SL2-S is a low light monster. The SL3 is pretty good at 10000 iso "

Prior to the a7s release in 2014, most people would have taken 10000 iso to be a typo with an extra zero in it :-)

This is SO true. For a color sensor, though, that SL2-s can almost see in the dark. It has a new home now thanks to this forum. Now, the R5II arrived so I've got to find a new home for the R5.

Not to derail too much further, but I have found by&large outside of sports/wildlife type situations where you are trading off shutter speed vs ISO to capture motion and/or accommodate long focal lengths.. the High ISO arms race is largely long past mattering for me.

That is, if you are shooting with an f1.4-f2.8 lens, 50mm or wider, ISO 10k is more than enough for any situation worth photographic. The higher the ISO and the more "seeing in the dark" my cameras have been able to do, the less marginal use I can extract.

One observation is that at sufficiently low light levels, where you are flexing f1.4/slow shutter/ISO 20k whatever, the light itself is just very contrasty & harsh. Regardless of the dynamic range the sensor may be able to capture, the scene itself just doesn't have much range. Your absolute black shadows are still way too far from whatever light source that might be in frame! Not to mention manual focus is hard on the eyes and many systems with autofocus won't do well in such low light either.

Anyway, it's always nice to have it as a tool in the tool box when you need to reach for it. It just doesn't really seem like it matters much anymore... its all good enough.

After a year or so agonising over the same question about having too much gear I've come to a decision that I need to take drastic action regarding the stupid amount of gear I own. I just struggle to store it all.

So I have decided to buy a bigger house....

Selling a couple of bodies will not make your wife richer.
To make someone happy you have to be happy.
You probably will be much happier keeping them all.
Happy life, happy wife!

You are probably right for daytime work like the birds I shoot. The other 75% of what I shoot is after dark on the street and in restaurants and bars where every stop counts.
