Updated via app, it went smoothly.
Can't say if it brings any improvement given I haven't used the canera enough with the new firmware.

M11M updated via SD without issue. Did full reset. Working well so far.

Release the M11-D already.

What is meant by "full reset"? What is a partial reset and why would one do that?

I am waiting to update as traveling right now.

I’m in the habit of saying it what way because there are different types of “resets” available in most cameras.

When doing a full reset must one overwrite their established user profiles and image numbering which then requires setting profiles again manually instead of downloading to an SD card and I guess reverts image numbering back to 00001?

I have never done this in the past and thus have never done a full reset I guess.

You don’t have to reset the image numbering in this case, just the factory reset plus user profiles. User profiles should be rebuilt from scratch.

Happy to be the pigeon in the coal mine this time around.

My M11-P was behaving well with the previous release and continues to do so with the new update.

I decided to redo my few user profiles and tidy my config up a little in the process.

It has been a week of daily use, and no issues have been noted so far.

After two weeks with the latest firmware, is the M11 series now stable, or are some M11 users still encountering issues?

My m11 is rock solid too with 1.6.2
I don’t have the audacity to update the firmware.
I am on the “if not broken don’t fix it” camp. So I will be 1.6.2 forever

My M11M just got shipped off for more monochrome pastures, but up until a few days ago, I was experiencing no issues with the latest firmware. I haven’t read of any new reported issues, although some still report a longstanding issue with occasional severe overexposure. I never had that problem through all four or five (can’t remember) M11s I had nor the M11M. It doesn’t seem to be a widespread issue, so either it is limited to older units with a hardware issue, or it’s something that only happens with a niche combination of settings.

But based on my history of issues with the M11 in general (and the associated trauma scars, lol), then also considering Leica’s repair turn-around time, I have moved to the SL3. I have a few M lenses inbound, including the CV 50 APO, and I’ll report on their performance on the SL3 in more relevant thread.

My new M11-P (#589 series) had two freezes, one each on different outings, with the older 2.1.1 firmware. I was doing rapid fire single shots when they happened. Removing the battery fixed them. With the new 2.1.2 firmware that's not happened yet. I like the M11-P a lot. I will be keeping my trusty M10-R&M as companion bodies.

HDM, I also have the CV 50 APO. I've not bothered testing it on my SL2 given Fred's earlier findings on that combo. I'll be interested in your SL3-CV 50 APO results. I recall you have a theory that BSI sensors improve the performance of M lenses. Could you include using the SL3's mechanical shutter in your testing since its electronic shutter is usually a no-go given its glacial readout speed. Thanks.

It would be interesting to see if your M11-P remains stable with the 2.1.2. Keep us updated.

Regarding the CV 50/2 APO on the SL2, there’s a slight "induced" field curvature when using this lens with the SL series. This issue is usually subtle and might not be noticeable during typical shooting but becomes apparent in infinity tests. Specifically, the corners are not quite in the same plane of focus compared to using the lens on a Leica M. I don’t expect the lens to perform any better on the SL3, as its sensor cover glass thickness is the same.

Fred, is there a source for the SL3 cover glass thickness? I remember hearing they made the M11 cover glass thinner, so it would make sense they did the same on the SL3. The casual shots I’ve taken so far with vintage lenses is showing improvement over what I remember getting with the same lenses on the SL2, SL2-S, and GFX 100S. It feels like with the SL3 that I’m shooting on an M11 with an EVF. One example would be my Minolta 50 1.2 and 58 1.2. Both are not known for being very sharp wide open, especially the 50. But I’m getting razor sharp shots wide open with both of them on the SL3. Even wide open at infinity, they’re sharper (the 50 specifically was complete mush wide open at infinity on other cameras), and the falloff in focus toward the frame edges isn’t as rapid. Perhaps it’s just the “rising tides lift all boats” result of moving up in resolution.

The M lenses I ordered don’t arrive until tomorrow, but I still have the LLL SPII. I’ll throw that on, and at f/2 and infinity, it should better inform.

Oh, I don't have a source for that. I'm assuming Leica didn't change it, as it would likely impact their existing lenses. But I could be wrong.

I’m going to put the SPII I still have on the SL3 and try it at f/2 at infinity. It’s sharp across the frame on the M11 like that, but hasn’t been on other cameras. That should tell us a little about the SL3. Ideally if someone had both SL2 and SL3, it would be great to see a real comparison.

I went back and looked at my infinity SPII shots on the M11M. They are centrally sharp with falloff at the edges. Looks about the same on the SL3 just now. I guess the best test will be the CV 50 APO I have coming tomorrow.

On the SL2-S, the CV 50 APO corners at infinity were good by 5.6. While the M11 was much better at wider apertures, by 5.6 there was no difference really. Maybe the SL2 required f/8? In any case, that lens on an SL camera wide open at close to mid distance has a beautiful rendering. Maybe part of the appeal is the small amount of field curvature, but whatever the case, it was my favorite lens on the SL2-S for everyday shots.

Regarding the SL3, the mechanical shutter has not yet caused any shutter shock for me up to 100mm so far.

Since my early comment on here that I was going to hold off….I’ve had two freezes with the old firmware. How ironic. Updating now

Make sure and do a factory reset afterward. Don't save your user profiles – discard and rebuild them.

Hope the update works well for you.
