That place is magical- I’ve surfed it about a decade ago-
It’s extremely impressive/or crazy that they held the Olympics at a wave that is truly life/death even on smaller days. The swells they surfed was heavy and a wrong move could be the end.

The video is blocked over here as well. Oh well, I would love the see the whole action sequence.
Kind of strange to host part of the Olympic half way across the world but I guess you need
the proper environment. Definitely would love to go back to French Polynesia again.

I wouldn't be surprised if it were part of the message that France is the country in the world with the largest exclusive economic zone (sea surface under their control).

Damn, I just discovered that my VPN has no nodes in Canada. Tried a bunch of other countries and nothing works.
Meh, it is not tack sharp so obviously Nikon AF is not fast enough. What a failure. Canon and Sony would have nailed it and focused on his eye lashes 😀😀😀
PS found a VPN node in Canada. Pretty epic shot and it is interesting to see the whole action series. When you see the video it does not look as unbelievable as the still.
Thanks for the link. Luke also sent me a PM with the link on the original and it is indeed real. It looked as though he was photographed standing somewhere and then photoshopped onto the photo.

He used his experience and knowledge of the sport and the competitor, and kept working while the 5-6 other photographers in the boat stopped. I don't know what they were doing--chimping, getting seasick over the side, trying not to drop a rented lens into the ocean. I dunno. But Jérôme Brouillet was ready and when the photo happened, he got it. Impressive professionalism.
oh well, I hope the video will eventually be available world wide.
