Working as optics designer for a camera company I can tell you the consumer filters are not well enough defined (specified) to be clear which brand filter is better for which application than the other from the public accessible data.
So a change would be a kind of gambling.
other than if it already fits use it i agree with and do it, but i think the situation is getting overstated. to change is less so "gambling". there are known products/manufacturers that are at a level of consistency where one does not need to turn it into a science project.
If you choose to purchase “off” brands. You are on your own.
