p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Dubrovnik - morning walk

During my trip to Croatia, I spent four delightful nights nestled within Dubrovnik's historic walled city. Luckily, my accommodation spared me the climb of countless stairs and the maze of narrow alleys. While the city often teems with tourists, making photography a challenge, I rose early one morning and experienced a magical transformation. The entire walled city stretched before me, bathed in the pre-dawn light, completely devoid of tourists... except for myself, of course! As a lover of charming alleyways and sacred spaces, I couldn't resist capturing this unique perspective. I'm sharing a few images from this tranquil morning exploration.
Thank you for viewing, and I welcome all comments and critiques!

Thanks Bill, it really is quite a place during day time filled with tourists. Here is a photo of the main drag taken during sunset time. Beautiful sunset but impossible to get a clean image.

Thanks Doug! Eastern Europe architecture is really fun to photograph. Especially, if you can get a chance to photograph some old communist building.

This was during sunset when all the cruise ships tourists are gone. It's definitely a beautiful little town.

My mental image of Dubrovnik is one of cruise ship tourist hordes clogging the alleys. Refreshing to see these images.

Very nice to see good old Dubrovnik again, and so empty in the morning!

BTW:It's architecture has nothing to do with East Europe. It is purely mediterranean of the North. In the Eastern Europe (Eastwards from Poland,Slovakia and Rumynia),they are either mix of other Western European styles presented,or their own, influenced by Byzantine Empire's architecture.

Thanks Dan, glad you enjoyed viewing the set. I still have so many images to go thru from my trip. Croatia is very special to me. Have made life long friends there and this was my 3rd visit. Love this part of Eastern Europe.

Thanks Rajan, you are absolutely correct about cruise ship tourist hordes clogging the alleys. I spent 4 nights and quickly realized that for me to capture any images it would have to be right at sunrise. I even walked the wall on a windy day to avoid people. After 10am the whole walled city is packed with tours.

Thanks Peire, agreed with your comments, this particular part is truly Mediterranean of North in Eastern Europe.

You know, when you grow up there, these things are just part of your background noise, so to speak. Until somebody starts to point out little thing beside which you passed million time and never noticed or cared because they were, well, always there. When I started taking my Canadian family there many years ago, that is when the true exploration started. It was like being a tourist in my own city. Some thing I knew, some I knew but forgot about them and some were new.
Did you see the "impossible to take apart" window bars? Look at the eyelets :-)

I am always amazed how you manage to capture such scenes without people in them. Well done!

One only starts to appreciate when you don't see it often. Yes, I did see several of those type of windows. Especially, in some of the remote Islands that I toured on a rented scooter in Hvar. I have so many images to PP I love Croatia, need to go back.

Thanks Paul, I manage to get out very early in the morning to most places I travel to. Only country I couldn't get out early in the morning was Norway!! Every night I tried to photograph during midnight sunset and just couldn't get my energy back up to get out in the morning. In Oslo, I really wanted to get up early to photograph as I stayed next to Opera in Sørenga which is a cool area to photograph in morning without people.
