I was photographing the monarch butterfly when this wasp came in. I never expected the attack.

Comments and suggestions welcome,

Morris

Wow ! That's pretty cool! What happened after the third shot? Did the butterfly fall to the ground?

It looks like the butterfly just flew off as the wasp took a tumble. Wasps are parasitic but wonder if that wasp parasitizes that butterfly. Great sequence.

Thank you,

The butterfly was fine and flew about 10 feet to another queen anne's lace.

The butterfly seemed fine as it flew about 10 feet and later flew again.

Thank you,

Morris

Thank you Karl,
I'd stopped down a bit to make the Queen Ann's Lace sharper

Very fun sequence Morris! The wasp looks like he's knocked back from the butterfly's thorax snapping upwards. Great stuff.

I've often gotten a laugh at how greedy/territorial bees get with butterflies over a single bloom when there is a field of them to be had.
