I can't figure out why no one mentions anything on FM about Lightening Triggers? Is there some technique I'm missing where you don't need one, especially during the day where you wouldn't just leave the shutter open in the dark in Bulb mode? I guess you could use a ND filter, but is that the technique and if so, which ND filter do I use and how?
Is it worth paying about $175 for a Miops or another brand and let the trigger do it? Do they work well?
There is a new Miops trigger comimg out that can be used on most brands of camera depending on the cable and you can switch cables. It's $175. You control it from your cell while sitting safely in your car .
I'm going to Florida, the Lightening Capitol of the US, so you can get some amazing shots from the swamps. Thanks.
Bill

Sarasota is allegedly the lightening capitol of the U.S. But imho after living there for 25 years? AZ tops Sarasota, at least in my area.

As for lightening triggers? I watched a Youtube video from a guy, can't remember who now, who says they are not worth the money as they are not very accurate. And if memory serves he gives tips on photographing lightening during all times.

I attempted to get lightening photos from my backyard at night. I was just experimenting and trying to see what I could get. Not too bad. Not shareable except on FB. I just did a 30 sec exposure at different focal lengths and ISO settings. Next time I'll head to an area with no street lights and homes in the field of view.

I use a lightning trigger for daytime lightning. I've used many triggers over the years, but my favorite is the Lightning Bug Plus by MK Controls. I like this trigger so much that I purchased enough to provide them on loan to everyone in my summer monsoon workshops at the Grand Canyon. Most of my workshop participants elect to buy a unit for themselves after using it.

The Lightning Bug Plus is affordable compared to some of the other lightning triggers on the market while being much more reliable than many cheaper options. I should also add that the folks at MK Controls have been wonderful to work with over the years. They are very responsive to questions about using their trigger and provide excellent support.

Thanks Adam, that's exactly what I was looking for and it sounds like the manufacturer backs them up. I will check them out.
