That sure looks like a RRS tripod in the first picture. Consistent with their considerable push into the gun space.

We all have our opinions on the politics of RRS but let's try to keep them out of the discussion.

they have been doing SOAR for a few years now. a tripod is nothing more than a tool and it is user and usage agnostic. there are other tripod makers that are involved in this market too.

in addition to the above-mentioned organizations these tools are being used by precision shooters and hunters again also available from other sources.

In their case there are possibly mitigating factors for the procurement and usage of their gear such as the Buy American Act.

In the end it’s really no point making much ado about nothing.

I don’t see a problem here. I often buy things designed for other uses than I put them to.

There’s nothing here discussion worthy.

I noticed the leg-wrap pattern also, and was uncertain whether the tripods were from RRS (more likely) or, from PMG. I'm not surprised that they (SS) would "buy American". One thing that surprised me though, was the fact that they'd be using tripods in the first place. Snipers usually use folding bi-pods.

What exactly are you hoping to discuss in this thread?

oh no, those are RRS tripods. that's not a leg wrap that is the CF weave finish itself. the 2 tripods look like TFCT models. look at the apex on the one on the right. the head looks to be an Anvil
precision distance shooting these days tends to be tripod based. things do change. yes prone position is just another position.

Him, absolutely nothing. he failed to do his homework on attempting to do the churn.

Yeah looks to me to be a RRS tripod with their Anvil-30 head, part of their SOAR line. I actually use the TVC-22i for photography, you can only find it on the SOAR website.

The stuff that sjms is saying jives with what I know. I spent quite a bit of time researching the TVC-22i before buying it. You get to know all the in's and out's of tripods for non-photography disciplines.

I probably will never run into another person with that tripod where we both have cameras sitting on the top.

I've used both for long-range shooting. Bipods are all a bit "iffy", since they need some leeway for swiveling and for elevation. They all use the rifle's sling swivel as the mount point. The tripod mount is really good since you can use it standing, kneeling, and prone by adjusting the legs. RRS and others have designed heads which provide a great deal of stability.

And if you need stability without a tripod/bipod, there are sandbag rests which provide excellent stability. I've also used that old standby, sandbag rests, for long telephotos.

I wouldn't have imagined that CF photo tripod designs would have been much use. Cameras don't kick much when pulling the trigger? I've had various CF tripods and they don't give the impression of stability for that kind of usage?

That said way back in my apprenticeship days when cameras ran out of juice after two frames unless you had an extra film holder, my boss had a Benro tripod that was somewhat like wrestling an angry octopus to put up and that thing could have been used as a medieval trebuchet for knocking down city walls.

Yeah, sandbags are great when shooting from a prone position, or, seated at a shooting-table. Where bipods excel, is when you have to move and quickly relocate your position. Tripods are fine for fixed target positions, where you don't have to change your seating position to your left or right. The rotaion point of the firearm would be at the forearm's sling-swivel mount, and you're mostly shooting from a squat position.

The only times I can recall shooting on a "rest", was when I was sighting-in a new scope for one of my rifles. Mind you, I also shot a sport called metallic silhouettes, where you're shooting while laying on your back,,, feet toward the target,,, and using the side of your lower-leg as a "rest". That's called a Creedmore position. You support your head by cranking your left arm behind your head. Targets are located at 25, 50, 100, and 200 yards. (yardage can vary, depending on event organizers) I used a Remington XP-100 bolt-action single-shot pistol for that event, chambered with a wildcat calibre 7mm Benchrest.(308 Winchester case necked down to 7mm). I also used a single-shot Thompson Center Contender with several different calibre barrels.

https://pistol.org.au/wp-content/themes/pistol/files/Shooting%20in%20the%20Creedmore%20Position.pdf

Occasionally, I'd use my .44 Mag Ruger Super Blackhawk w/10.5" barrel, or my Smith & Wesson .41Mag N-frame w/8" barrel. My main competition focus however, was a sport called PPC, where I won the Quebec Provincial Championship and I'm ranked "Master" at the Quebec Shooting Federation. That said, my eyes were a little younger back then.

Yeah, I packed the guns away a longgggg time ago. (late '80's). Now I shoot Nikon
At one point, I was offered a job training new recruits at the RCMP base in Regina, but my airline career was more important at the time. Given the airline mergers and acquisitions in the early '90's though,,, maybe I should have made that move. Shooting though, was great fun while it lasted. I do miss the competition aspect,,,, but doing it as a full-time job I dunno.

I stayed on just long enough to get my free lifetime passes,,,, then it was "salut la visite".,,, "sayonara baby". Now I can travel the entire globe for free. That said, I travel very little these days. The bloom has fallen off the rose so to speak, Without the companionship of the wonderful people I had working in my crews, it's just no longer the same experience. Mind you, I probably wouldn't kick up a fuss about going back to Monte Carlo to shoot an F-1 race,,, or spending a week or two in some small village south of Lyon or west of Geneva. The food there is just outstanding..

Speaking of "tripods" ,,,,,,,,,,
