I don't know much about those, but given the responses (or more accurately lack thereof ) I'll see if I can help get the ball rolling

Have you looked at the G1X III? It has the larger sensor.

I like Rebels + kit lenses, for travel, 18-55, 10-10, 55-250, etc. They are often much less expensive than the 1" sensor cameras, although the Canons you mentioned look very compact and fairly reasonably priced. Rf has really light compact cameras like R100

For photography use the main difference is just going to be the lens. The G5 has a wider zoom range and a faster aperture, the sensors are likely identical. The G5x also has a pop-up viewfinder, but that comes at the expense of being larger.

I've got a G5 X II and it's great, I take it with me on long hikes/runs when I can't bring a bigger camera but still want something a bit better than an iPhone.

I cannot comment on the G5X ii, but I own the G9X ii. I bought it about six years ago when was traveling to a destination where openly carrying a system camera kit was considered risky. I wanted a camera that could be carried without being noticed, which I could quickly slip out of my pocket, take a picture and hide it again.

I chose the G9X ii over the Sony RX100 because of its dimensions. The G9X ii is *really* pocketable, more pocketable than a smart phone. It is very elegant and well made, and in spite of its small size and weight in handles very nicely. I also like the matching leather case, which can be used to attach it to the belt, but the camera is perfectly safe to carry in a jacket or shirt pocket without any case.

Having said this, in absence of the use case above I am hardly using it any more. I am really missing the viewfinder, and with its 1" sensor the IQ is no match for an APS-C system camera, even using RAW.
