Ah very good. I do have EF 1.4x III, was wondering whether I shall buy also 2x, but now the RF 2x seems a bit more usable even with higher price tag, as it can teleconvert an EF lens which is otherwise TC incompatible, e.g. I can carry the 70-300 DO IS or Sigma 100-400 Contemporary and have a small and light TC to double their reach at the cost of the lower quality as a backu[.

I could basically turn the Sigma into a poor man's RF800/11 while not carrying it as additional volume/weight.

I had two sets of EFIII TC's and I sold one off because I've been converting to the RF line. When I have time, I'll be selling off my remaining set of EFIII TC's since the RF converters now cover my remaining EF lenses.

Womp womp. Seems like the result is not what I expected. I thought I'd be getting results somewhat better than 2x non-interpolation upscale from non-TC pictures, but it seems not like that.

There is various variables - the RF 2x TC (TC) I bought was second hand, so it's not pristine from a padded box. The JJC RF-EF converter (C) needed quite a filing and it still doesn't like to fit into the lens part of the TC lightly like an end of a RF lens. Funny that because it has no problems fitting to the actual RF mount of the camera, and from what I feel while putting the C on the TC, it's more like the mount itself is resisting somewhere, not the protrusion of the TC in the enlarged hole of the C.

I've shot the non-TC photo through the same modified C that was also on the TC. I do have original Canon's C, but that one I want to have just for plain usage of the EF lenses on the RF camera (also it was more expensive and would require even more filing ),

The lens was ubiquitous EF-50/1.8 STM.

These are just small 1:1 crops from the center frame of R6/2, SOOC jpegs. To rule out all other factors, I was just interested in the small part of the frame where the lens is best and which was directly used to focus the lens. It was not in any way some controlled test, the camera was not perpendicular to the wall, but the distance was about 4 meters and aperture was f/2.8, shot from the tripod, so camera didn't move. In any way the TC would still have looked better than 2x upscale, right? Right?

Well, behold my womp womp:

2x TC:

No TC, 2x upscale no interpolation:

Well at least I can't say I didn't try. Now that I think of it, I should have shot the same shot with the EF-100/2 just for the comparision of case of a "WonderTC from an ideal world", but I already put the stuff away.

Try your 100mm lens. Sounds like something is wrong with your setup. I'll try to get some examples posted in the next few days, but it should be tack sharp, unlike your first example.

Unfortunately I can't really test the TC as such. It was second hand so it might be perhaps broken, but it doesn't seem to have any marks of a drop. And the only RF lens I have (and the only to accept the TC anyway) is RF800/11. Can you also try with the EF 50/1.8 STM, I'm assuming everyone has one. ;-)

They're nice, but the EF 300/2.8 L IS II seems to be obscenely sharp lens according to reviews, so it's a very good start to boot. I don't think the Nifty-Fifty scores as high, nor do the telezooms I tried at their long ends at f/8 (tried Sigma 100-400 Contemporary and the old EF 70-300 DO), therefore I'd like to see some results from more mundane lenses for me to discern whether I might have problems with the setup or I am in fact magnifying mediocre lenses 2x.

I might give it a try with the 70-200/2.8 L IS II. That's quite sharp one. Also the results with RF800/11 don't look as degraded as in the image test above.

It should work great on the 70-200II and if it doesn't then something is wrong with your setup. If I have time I'll post some with the 135L.

There doesn't seem to be much difference in IG between EF and RF TC:s. So it is likely reasonable to use EF whenever that is possible. For those EF lenses that can't take EF TC, RF TC is possible, but it will likely cause problems with IBIS as the focal length seems to be seen without TC. That wouldn't matter so much for long focal lengths, but those tend to take the EF TC, so...

As far as using FD lenses with RF TC goes, it isn't as simple as you'd think. The aperture lever in FD lenses collides with the TC structure. So you either need to use extra extension and loose infinity focus or you have to remove (or cut) the aperture lever.

This would be great, as I also have 135L and we can compare at least roughly.
