p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · This Board Ain't Busy Like in the Good Ol Days

The last time I visited this board was about at least 10 years ago. I quit in 2012 and went into IT. It seems that the traffic here has slowed to a crawl compared to the good ol days. What's going on? Wedding business has gone through the roof for every wedding shooter? So they don't have time to come here exchanging ideas? What has happened to the market?

Just a guess, but I think it could potentially just be the general movement away from traditional internet forums as us older internet folk know. Social media is where a lot of conversation happens now, from Reddit to Facebook Groups to numerous comment sections elsewhere. It helps tremendously that those platforms are free to use and do not have constantly rising costs to post pictures, like here on FM or other hosting sites.

Besides moving away from classic forums.... hello FB/IG. or Teaching platforms like slrlounge.com
Additionally.... I can see this as an adjustment time for weddings shooters. Meaning some shooters moving on to do other things.
Budgets are different, the entire "do we want to get married" is being questioned by the next generation.
I even find Indian weddings are a step smaller with the current pricing/inflation.

who knows ... with the AI crazy doing all the boring mundane stuff.... maybe this will help us humans find our way back to celebrating life and experiences.

It is pretty cool that shooting a wedding takes a special skill when you are taught what to see.
And while AI might be able to reproduce some aspects, it is the experience that is the winner here.

I find that discord is a great platform for stuff like this. Very popular these days!

The primary reason why I came here at least 10 years later from my last visit was that one of my coworkers got a quote of $13K for a shooter to cover her wedding for 10 hours in 2025, who said the shooter treats any wedding that needs 1.5 or more hours commute as a destination wedding. By the way,I'm in Atlanta. Is this the norm now?

There really is no 'norm' at this point. Pricing is all over the place. However, pricing over 10k isn't as crazy as it once was, given the cost of living now compared to 10yrs ago. There are a lot of photographers at 2-3k or below, but the number who are at 8, 10, or 15K+ is definitely higher now.

Way, way back in the day, people would post 2nd shooter jobs in the Wedding section.

Second shooter story - So back when I did weddings, I get an email from a photographer looking for 2nd shooter work. At the time, I had a Google Wedding photography ad. The nitwit had clicked on my Google ad to contact me.

So I paid for the Chucklehead to email me looking for work.
I did not use the young lad.
