I last purchased (3 77mm Hoya) filters in 2006, but now need to purchase an 82mm circular polarizing filter for my new Canon RF 24-70. Are B+W and Hoya still considered good (the best) filter brands?

The long-time favorite B+W is my choice. For step-up rings, I find the (Chinese) Sensei Pro with brass build to be excellent.

I use a 82mm Zeiss T* C-Pol filter, and an 'extra-wide' 82mm B+W 82 EW KSM MRC C-Pol filter (with 95mm front threads). They're both excellent CP filters. I wouldn't chose between them, except for which lens they're used on.

B+W is my personal base choice. Besides them, I also have filters from Singh-Ray, Breakthrough, Case, Wine Country and Heliopan. None are better, though the Singh-Ray LB works slightly better in low-light. I use the Case in 112mm for my 14-24 lens where the magnetic connection is handy. That said, if B+W had a magnetic setup for 112mm, I'd go with them.
