I am wondering if anyone has used a 1/4-20 bottom tap to install threads in the second hole on the lens foot to keep the lens plate from rotating?

I use a plate from Hejnar Photo out of Illinois that is custom made for the 100-500. It has a part that goes into that hole to keep it from twisting. I have used their plates on the 100-500, 800 f11, 200-800 with great results. A small business that designs and build them in house.

I'm using a Kirk LP-71 foot, which has a front lip that keeps the plate from rotating.

This one won't twist:

https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1784737-REG/wimberley_ap_607_replacement_foot_for.html?ap=y&smp=y&lsft=BI%3A514&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjwyo60BhBiEiwAHmVLJfWXEehzdFMMaxE4wtByoofl3jW3dLqmD0vWIMIu_Ea1izy9uY0HtRoCbwoQAvD_BwE

Kirk has a similar foot design too.

If you just want an arca plate, Hejnar makes one with a post to lock in that extra hole to prevent twisting.

Hello,
My first post here.
Perhaps a $1 solution. I am always careful about not scratching the bottom the lens foot (OCD). So over the years I have used thin one-sided self-adhesive foams on the plate (sticky side on the plate). When you screw the plate to the lens foot, the foam gets squished and takes the shape of grooves under the lens foot, preventing the plate from rotating. Hope this helps if you are after a cheap solution.

The Leofoto design is far better than the piece of crap Canon product. It should not put the lens on the ground like the Canon can.

I ended up purchasing a knock-off replacement foot available on Amazon:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09NPMSHLS/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It works quite well, is Arca Swiss compatible, and balances better than the Canon foot.

I use this inexpensive iShoot replacement collar available on Amazon:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B09NPMSHLS?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title

It fits and works well. Rotation is very smooth, and the foot has safety stops.

The only issue for some may be that the foot is relatively short. So if you need a longer foot for balancing on a gimbal, it might not be the right thing.

I also picked up their model for the RF 70-200 2.8L, even though I will probably use that lens without a collar most of the time.

Edit: ninja'd by @gavin_emmons@. That will teach me for not reading to the end of the thread, haha. Anyway, I'll leave this here as a second endorsement.

The iShoot products I own are well made and designed—much better than Canon's original. Their arca replacement foot for the EF 100-400 L IS USM II even has finger grooves so the foot can double as a carry handle.

Yes, I've been using a 1/4-20 second screw to prevent rotation. It works just fine.
