Hey Guys, I currently have the A9 and A9ii and am considering selling both for 2x A7iv. The fold out screen, higher megapixels and AI focus tracking would all be welcome upgrades. My ONE hesitation is banding since I tend to shoot silent shutter most of the time. I'm telling myself I can just use MS if / when banding is an issue... for anyone that has been using the A7iv for a while, can you share your thoughts?

I can't speak to the a7iv, but why not just sell the Original A9 and buy one a7iv to see how well it works for your needs.

Great point! I posted the question here to gather insights from others who have experience with the A7IV. Hearing about real-world usage, especially regarding the silent shutter and potential banding issues, helps me make a more informed decision before committing to sell the A9. It’s always valuable to tap into the community’s collective knowledge before making a big change. Thanks for the suggestion!

Well I use 2x A7IV bodies. I only use mechanical shutter. Too many possible issues with silent on a normal sensor. Any reason why you need to shoot silent? Is is just your preference? With all these venues using LED lights now I just don't want to risk it...

Also I don't think the A7IV has AI focus tracking... That's a A7RV & A7CR, A7CII...

As measured here https://horshack-dpreview.github.io/RollingShutter/

The a7iv has an electric shutter scan rate of 1/15 sec (vs 1/152 for the a9). Given this, I'd be afraid to use electronic shutter for anything that might have movement.
