I don't know how manufacturers determine load capacity, but this tripod is said to be in the load range that you mentioned and collapse to less than 20 inches:

FWIW, I recently acquired a Leofoto LS-254C as a travel tripod that slots between my Gitzo Mountaineer and an insubstantial Sirui 024X. It's fine, but you might be interested in the somewhat beefier model, the LS-284CX:

You can find a new-in-the-box older version (LS-284C vs. the newer LS-284CX) at auction for about $99.

Too bad you're eliminating Gitzo,,,, because the price that B&H is offering the 2-series Traveller "kit",,, which includes a heckuva good ballhead w/friction control, is a steal,,, especially if you get it on sale.
The kit is the GK2545T-82QD, which includes the GT-2545T tripod,,, and the GH-1382QD ballhead. The head is rated at 31 lbs,,, and the legs are rated at 27 lbs. Folds to just under 18" with the head attached.
The great thing about Gitzo is,,,, you can easily get spare parts,,, and you get a lengthy warranty extension for free, if you register your purchase at Gitzo..

When I last checked B&H, the kit was going for $629. The head alone usually retails at $399.

What don't you like about it? Knowing what you like/dislike might help others with recommendations.

I have a Gitzo Series 1 Traveler and use it all the time; great little piece of gear. Its only shortcoming that I've found is that the column antirotation lock (a little piece of plastic stuck into a slot in the column sleeve) fell out of mine and a friend's unit. Gitzo sent a replacement under warranty and it was trivial to install (which is also probably why it fell out).

We use the Feisol CT-3441S Traveler and it supports a load of 44 lb and collapses down to 16.9 inches. and includes an excellent carry case. Weight is only 2.53 lb and build quality is as good as anything from RRS and better than with current Gitzo tripods.
Great to have a quality carry case. With my Gitzo and RRS tripods I needed to add in the $100 cost for a quality case to the cost of the tripod.

in reality i had that case when i had my Feisol. it was what it was and stayed in its box. i can appreciate something that a can use so i prefer to choose the one i will end up using.

one persons treasure is another's you know

the vinyl piping on that bag has a limited lifespan tends to crack. but then again it was "free" or baked into the tripod price.

as to spend in $100 on a bag. well its then all on me. i made custom choices. either way it was a conscious choice and serves multiple purposes.

there it is for all to see:

A good choice IMO. This is the first Made in China tripod that employs High Modulus carbon fiber. I like their twist locks, something different.
