p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Pelican "Air" cases versus non-Air?

I am trying to find a Pelican case that's somewhere between the 1510 and 1650 in terms of size.

One case that might work for me is the 1615 Air. The "Air" and the non-Air cases do differ a little bit in appearance, but other than that, what's the difference?

My guess is that the term "Air" denotes that they're lighter and slightly less durable, but that's only speculation.

For my use case (no pun intended), I'd rather the more durable case even if it's a bit heavier, since I only ever have to haul it from the building to the car.

My air Pelican that I bought several years ago is lighter than the non-air version. Otherwise it seems the same to me. And just as well made as my other Pelican and SKB cases.

The Air ones are lighter and that allows you to put more inside without it becoming an overweight case by the airlines and subject to a surcharge.

i've used air for years. would not consider any other. Using 1605 with trekpak. I didn't get wheels to save weight for airline. At airport, I typically am able to get a cart. Same at motel. I use these purely for transport and not in the field. Full of gear it weighs 50 lb.

If you are not worried about weight, I'd pick on basis of which one your gear fits in better. Also remember you still have to pick it up and lift it onto a counter, bed or car.
