Manfrotto Pro Bag 1. I have had this for 25 years or so.
It's for huge tripod. Padded, 83cm long.
Handy that handles are offset, easier to balance load.

Round shape makes it no good for balancing tripod on top.
Left unzipped, good for Drop, Grab, Rest.
Probably big enough for an 800 lens, hood on, body mounted.

Manfrotto MBAG80P.
'80' for 80cm long, P for Padded.

This is Sony 200-600 lens. Total length about 450mm.
Plenty of length for big lens, but the thin end is only about 14cm diameter.
The hood of my Sigma 500 is just under 16cm diameter, so does not fit.

Not as relevant for this thread, but other bags similar are available.
When carrying with long strap over 1 shoulder, 'head end' can be left unzipped for fast removal.
For rough terrain, strap used diagonally, zipped up, for a more secure fit.

MBAG90P is:I
Internal Base Diameter: 20.0 cm
Internal Head Diameter: 23.0 cm

I keep an eye on the stitching of the strap at the head end.
Logically, this would be the weak point but these bags do seem to be well made.

Buy the 200-800 and skip the others. I have been impressed with what it can do at f9 combined with r5 12k ISO.

I know - not helpful but it really does work.

I've been thinking about picking up the 200-800 as the versatility and huge reach would be very liberating. I still might cave one of these days or rent one to try it out, but as you already know, the images from 500 II are magical and I'd find it very hard to ever let go of it.

Greetings long lens aficionados. I am looking at suggestions to carry two long lenses in the field, like a 300/400 2.8 and 600 f/4? When i mean carry, i mean walking around and ready to shoot either one quickly as possible, possibly with a RRS strap, cotton carrier or some other means.

I am not looking for suggestions on what bag to buy and hike with for two big lenses.

Thank you!

Ran into an acquaintance carrying a couple D500's, one having 200-500, the other 300/4 + binoculars. He let go of everything, claimed it weighed nothing, after I showed him my lightweight gear. He used Black Rapid, you might look at them, the 200-500 is 5.5lbs, depending on the body + lens version you might be pretty close to D500+ 200-500 weight

I've carried on alt 300/2.8 using an inexpensive old navy backpack, the zippers can give, though, wouldn't want to use it hiking heavy expensive lens I don't think. Should be others available though

What did you miss about what the OP wants and does not want?

i.e. A 300/400 2.8 and 600 f4 and not a backpack, and not a single 300 f2.8, and not two D500's plus a 200-500 and 300/4.

A slight difference in weight and accessibility.

I'd recommend actually reading my post. Since you seem to have missed things. Also do a bit of math since you missed that too

The D500 + 200-500 is probably about 7.5lbs, R5 + 600/4 EF III or Rf only about 8.2 lbs. So not necessarily that much different, definitely the same class, if you are using the latest lenses and a lighter body

If you can carry 1 having no issue, you can probably carry 2 given the right straps

Well maybe you should try reading the OP's post again, since you missed he did NOT want a backpack, he asked about two lenses, not about a camera and lens.

The D500 + 200-500 is probably about 7.5lbs, R5 + 600/4 EF III or Rf only about 8.2 lbs. So not necessarily that much different, definitely the same class, if you are using the latest lenses and a lighter body

Well who cares about the Nikon comparison? The Nikon 200-500 is 5.07 lbs. The Canon EF 300 f2.8 is 5.29 lbs., the Canon RF 400 f2,8 is 6.4 lbs., and either Canon 600 f4 is 6.8 or 6.7 lbs.

Doing the math, the Canon 300 f2.8 and Canon 600 f4 together weigh 12.09 lbs. The Canon 400 f2.8 and Canon 600 f4 together weigh 13.2 lbs.

If you can carry 1 having no issue, you can probably carry 2 given the right straps

Use as many straps as you want, the two Canon lenses will still weigh either 12.09 lbs. or 13.2 lbs.

Here's a thought: don't put both lenses on the same exact strap.

The guy I know basically had 7 lbs on one side of his body and presumably could have put the same on the other if he'd had, say, 300/2.8 instead of 300pf. And if it holds 7lbs, would probably hold 8.2, or maybe get the next size up

I'd recommend the op looks at black Rapid straps.

Wow, what a novel idea. Who would have thought of putting the lenses on separate straps?

Take a look in a mirror buddy boy. Your dumb crap like "don't put both lenses on the same exact strap". I'm pretty sure the OP can figure that out. Then there is your mindlessly adding the weights of Nikon gear.

Only mistake I made was somehow getting you off my HIDE ME list. Probably a computer glitch. Rectified. Bye, Bye.

I know what you're trying to do and I've settled on the BR double strap. Not perfect but the best option I've come across for quickly working with a 2 lens tele setup. When climbing over rough terrain they will bash into things and each other but it is what it is....

I have a buddy who occasionally shoots with a 400 f2.8TC and 600 f4TC... It's a lot of weight w/ the Z9's, but he uses the BR double strap that @drobertfranz suggests. He does not go far with the set up, but can comfortable walk a mile along a manicured trail. Were I do any climbing, I'd probably carry one on the back and the other w/ the strap.

I've opted for a smaller profiled lens for the second, so a chest harness and single BR cross strap is enough for me.
good luck,
bruce

This wouldn't work for me, but in case you have not seen these before, it might be an option for you.

just have to figure out how to double pouch it for the 100-300 2.8 and 600 f/4.

I was thinking you would be carrying one of them on a shoulder strap like normal and use the pouch for the second body/lens.

I think someone needs to invent a "Body Turret" system where you load a body/lens vertically in the front then rotate it around your waist and torso to retrieve the other rig from your back. The trouble is the shear length of these great whites with their hoods. You could put an eye out or sumthin.

I don't ever take that much gear hiking, but when I shoot sports such as football games, I typically have the 300 F2.8 on a monopod attached to a single point rifle sling, and then another body with something like a 70-200 F2.8 in a Lowepro camera pouch on my belt.

When I need to use the second body, I let the camera with the 300 2.8 hang behind me (yes the monopod can create a tripping hazard).
