While checking for some accessories on RRS, I found out they have some new tripods, the Quadpod and the TFCX-13.

https://reallyrightstuff.com/tfcx-tripod-packages/

It looks exactly like a TFC-14 minus a section, same folded length but less maximum height, maybe a good alternate to Ascend-14 which is very costly.

nifty. it is both fortunate and unfortunate that their products just last and last.

Can someone please explain the use case for the "quadpod"?

I think they explained it on their product page.

'designed specifically for photographers who prioritize mobility without sacrificing stability and performance. Perfect for backcountry adventurers, the TFCX-13 meets the demands of those who need reliable support in challenging environments.'

The weight is the key thing. At 2.1lbs it's incredibly light. It actually weighs LESS than my 50mm Tokina Opera.

That lightness means enhanced portability which makes it a great hiking/backcountry tripod.

That's the theory at least.

Maybe for video folks or astrophotographers with big scopes.

Here's the Quadpod link,,, this is one BIG honking beast at 76" tall and 8.2 lbs. Supports 120 lbs. This is an anti-tipping design. Ironically, I had designed one just like this,,, just a few months back. There are advanteges, and disadvantages (especially levelling and set-up time))

I'm a bit surprised that Novoflex doesn't seem to get much attention on this side of "the Pond". I came close to buying their multi-row pano head roughly 10 years ago. Joe Brody was demo'ing that item on Youtube. They've been around for 70 years. Ultimately, I didn't buy because I was concerned about the very tiny blue knobs,,, and they're certainly not cheap.

they tend to be "somewhat unique" in their designs, methods and place in the community.

A better choice is the Feisol CT-3441S that I own. It costs half as much as the RRS tripod and has a bettery working height of 50.4 inches before extending the center column and supports a greater load with it 44 lb capacity. The Feisol also is more compact as it collapses down to 17.9 inches which is shorter than the bare RRS tripod and 4 inches shorter than the RRS version with the riser. The Feisol legs also include and excellent carry case. With RRS all I ever got was a cardboard box and needed to spend another $100 to get a carry case.

Not a difficult decision whether to spend $495 on the Feisol CT-3441S or $1,035 on the RRS TFCX. I cannot understand why any person would make the objective decision to buy RRS products when there are better designed products selling for less.

well, i wouldn't worry about it. it was an easy choice for me.
the bag i got with the feisol was pretty much basic boilerplate build which for me was useless
i had my case made/modded. i had the option of purchasing a retail bag but i chose to control its design to my liking/needs.
-no zipper
-compression buckles that are easily replaced w/o sewing being involved
-fits the multiple size tripods i use and can carry a combo load of 1 tripod 1 monopod.
-its built to last
-multi mount option
-oh, it even has a drain hole at the bottom

i do think that RRS has better designed tools overall. and i'ved had no real problems in investing in tools in my life. they have always helped keep me employed.

i did own a Feisol previously. it was a good tripod but with some minor niggles. i found out later the RRS was a better thought out one though. the devil was in the details.

the much talked about included feisol carry case:

I am already married... Don't need another "thing" to look at till I die and spend more on than I can afford (but I still love you honey if you are reading this )

On the TCFX - max height 41 inches. That is dangerously close to being useless as a photography tripod. RRS in particular is now all in on the gun stuff.

The Leofoto LS-284C is 6 inches taller even after opening the leg angle to 25 degrees, weighs 5 oz more, costs 1/7th if you buy it at the right time of year, and seems to perform shockingly close to the RRS offerings

i was there at their operation last fall. you have little idea of what they are "all in on".

RRS pays/supports their people a little better.

there are a few other differences in the apple and orange basket too.
