A word to the wise; don't buy anything directly from RRS. I'm switching out a lever clamp to a screw clamp on an older BH-40 and it has not been easy. I ordered the new screw clamp from the RRS website, and based on the website photos they sent me the wrong thing. I tried calling their local number and their toll free number and both weren't accepting calls. So I emailed their support; nothing. This is a well made product but they spend ZERO on servicing it.

If you buy any of their products do so from B&H or other retailers. At least then you have the option for a hassle free return.

as of 04/16/2024 i got this email just incase:

i get through to them fairly easy though. i recently had a part replaced by them that i did a number on. they had to manufacture the part but the tripod went back in service after a short bit.

what was the part # you ordered vs the part # you got?

Thanks! I tried to call them during normal business hours at their store and I couldn't get through. Since they changed their effort to rifle focus sights, they aren't as responsive. I'll keep trying but again they aren't customer friendly.

they've been doing SOAR for a few years now. I've been by their operation last fall. they do both.

i have 2 BH40 heads that i changed over the older lever clamps to the newer SOAR based ARC-LR clamps.

Drop them an email, maybe a little slow to response but all my requests are well replied. All my purchases with them are a pleasure, last time they sent me ARC-LR clamps missing a few screws, just an email and I got them all free of charge.

May not have been helpful if they did reply. I sent them an email once regarding a replacement screw I needed and they claimed they couldn’t help me via email and insisted I call. All I needed was a link to the right product.

I dealt directly with RRS before the owner moved the business operation from California to a pricey place in SLC. Now I buy anything but RRS which is overpriced for what one gets.

I was a happy customer when they were here in California, and still a happy customer after they relocated to Utah. As my budget tripods and heads wear out, I am replacing them with RRS. Very happy with their engineering and quality craftsmanship. Their camera L-brackets are phenomenal. Customer service is always helpful and they genuinely ask for and receive feedback.

The owner of RRS gave as his reason for moving the high cost of homes and he wanted is employees to be able to afford one. Problem is he moved to a very exclusive area in SLC that is much more costly for homebuyers than SLO.

RRS provides high quality products and some are well engineered and others are kludgy and over engineered. Many companies are producing items like carbon fiber tripods that are as well made and with better designs and that include a quality carry case. My last purchase of a tripod for video and still use was the RC-5570 Vantage that comes with interchangeable flat base and 75mm bowl which change without tools in seconds. The carry case was designed with a zipper release to extend its length so it holds the tripod legs with the Sachtler ACE XL video head attached. At a cost of $449 it is more tripod for half the cost of anything from RRS.

My Feisol tripod cost $700 and it too included an excellent carry case. In seconds I can add a quick level base or a center column kit and this is something I cannot do with a RRS tripod.

For a ball head the RRS are not bad but the Arca Swiss D4 GP heads are superior in every respect. They do cost more but it negates the idea that RRS products are the best for anything that one can buy.

as with me and everyone else its an opinion. i made investments in hardware at certain time and the ROI was good. in a word and in this world none of us has the perfect formula for success. i got over that. these are the tools that i use and the form and function fit my needs. you take it personally bad thing to do its business. you with the Feisol carry case! i had one too way back from them. kind of a limited use thing. it was also nothing to use as a example of craftsmanship. it was a freebie. glad you found that fit your needs. since i play a little different i had my bag made by Sunrise Tactical Wa who allowed me leeway in how it was built and what it was built for. the devil is in the details. i do have a multi discipline background. it doesn't make me perfect (made my share of mistakes), but it does help a bit.

there is a difference between being in SLO and SLC. it is the right for any company to move to a more advantageous location to build up their investment. this is business. have you been to Utah lots of different places to live there even around Lehi/SLC?

i strongly suggest you also get over it as i have. its not personal it is business.

Hard to blame him. As someone who moved a small business IN to California, it must be among the least business friendly states. SLO is a small town with nothing nearby. There are 1.2M people within a 30mile radius of Lehi and the area continues to grow. I have not compared costs/regulations between CA and UT but given how many of our family friends with small businesses have fled California for UT, ID and AZ I have to think there are compelling reasons for doing so.

And where is the Robus made? How do they keep the price low?

I have quick level base and center column kit for my Versa. It also has QD attach points for a sling so I can skip the bag and still carry securely over rough terrain. I personally have not found Feisol's to be very rigid. How much would it cost if the Feisol were designed, tested and manufactured in the USA?

The AS are handmade in France. High quality indeed. I must have missed "that RRS are the best for anything" if someone said that. I do think they offer a wide range of plates, heads, tripods and accessories that are very well engineered, high quality and stand up to time. RRS customer service is always helpful when I need something or I have questions, and they genuinely ask for and receive feedback about how their products perform in the field.

Arca Swiss D4 GP is a really nice sophisticated head. nifty to have less so to travel with my lesser needs. they too have come up with some interesting works. i do tend to try to work with KISS more. i wish i could find a reason to own and use it.
