FYI, narration sounds good. I use to have Rode NT1 XLR mic, Focurite Scarlett audio interface, sound blanket on the wall, etc - it is a lot of work for occasional non-pro work. Your solution sounds perfect! :-)

Good call on the 30p, I always default to 24p, but what you say makes sense.

Thanks for sharing!

Hi patotts,

You're very welcome, anytime. I'm glad it was useful.

Cheers,
Rudy

Hi Rudy, This was a great video. I also watched some of the others on your YT channel. Thanks for sharing. I think the footage, music and narration have come together really nicely on this video. I found it very engaging. Thanks also for sharing the settings and equipment you used. It is really helpful for those who would like to get into filming.

Hi Bisonbison,

Thanks for your kind words, much appreciated.

Creating short wildlife videos of subjects around the Ottawa area has been my passion for 3 years now after many years of doing stills photography - one year with the Nikon D500 (no AF tracking) and two years with the Canon R5. It's been a steep learning curve, but lots of fun, and think I've made just about every mistake possible. I'm just now starting to be happy with the results.

One of the reasons I posted this video here in the main forum and not in a sub-thread was to encourage other Canon videophiles and those interested in trying out video to give it a shot. If you ever have any questions regarding gear, technique (video, audio, editing in Davinci Resolve, etc.), please feel free to ask. As I wrote, I've made just about every mistake there is to make and can probably save others some time and frustration.

Have a great day!
Rudy

I do have a very high level question. How much does the resolution advantage of the R5 make a difference vs the improved AF of the R6mkii for video? Assuming the primary lens would be the 100-500mm, potentially with a 1.4x TC

Wow, that is a tough question that I'm afraid I can't help you with. I only know the R5 and how to get what I need from it for the types of videos and stills I do. I know from reviews and from friends who own the R6ii that the AF system is better than the R5 and that it does a great job on videos. However, whether these factors outweigh the absence of a 45MP sensor as in the R5 I could not begin to guess.

Both Jan Wegener and Duade Patton give the R6ii top marks for video in their online reviews, but both said they would stick with the R5 because they want the extra resolution for the flexibility of cropping. I guess I feel the same.

Stanj's recent posts of fabulous Owl images in the Summer 2024 Image thread put me in an Owl mood, so I thought I'd share this little video about some awesome Owls I've filmed over the last year or so.
Enjoy!
Rudy
