We're curious about monitor recommendations for editing. Not a fan of highly reflected surfaces and prefer a matte surface for editing. Thanks for any input.

Largely depends on your budget.

I use the BenQ PD2700U-I, it's able to be calibrated but there are monitors upwards of $15,000 as well.

I have an Apple XDR with no glare - the price tag is not for the faint of heart

I've have an Eizo ColorEdge that i've been very satisfied with, so might continue to a larger upgrade.

I have used Eizo and BenQ. Both are excellent. Currently using a pair of BenQ SW321C monitors (32", 4k res).

I strongly recommend getting a monitor which supports hardware calibration - BenQ SW series, for example. Hardware calibration lets you see what your images really look like :-)

However, if I were buying from scratch, and was a bit put off by the price of BenQ SW series (and bearing in mind that the Eizo equivalents are even more expensive), I might consider the new BenQ monitors - the PD series. These are good quality, and their new 32" model features seriously black blacks. And some (all?) of the PD series have the option of a very nice arm instead of a normal monitor stand - I'd really like to see this arm on the SW line.

I confirm diglloyd advice here: "at pixel densities over 160 dpi, it becomes too hard to reliably distinguish critically sharp from almost sharp. The exception might be young eyes viewing the image at very close range ... It is far easier to assess image sharpness at 101 dpi than at 220 dpi (320 dpi makes it impossible)."
Therefore, for editing I recommend either the EIZO CS2400S (24.1" diagonal, 20.4" wide, 1920x1200, 99% AdobeRGB, 94 ppi) or the (more expensive, "true black" display and with built-in sensor for calibration) CG2420 (24.1" diagonal, 20.4" wide, 1920x1200, 99% AdobeRGB). However, the CG2420 is a 10-bit display that requires a graphics board and software which support 10-bit output; more info here: https://www.eizoglobal.com/products/coloredge/cg2420/index.html

I spoiled myself 10+ years ago with Apple's first Retina 5k iMac (218pp). By comparison, every BenQ or Eizo I've tried since looks soft to my eyes. My current 32" XDR monitor is 6k and retains the 218 density. So sharp, so luxurious.

On a related topic, I often wonder why high-megapixel cameras are so popular. If your monitor can only show 4k, why generate images that are 6k+? To me, it seems like a waste of data collection, storage, archving.

My R6's (20mp) generate 5400pixel files, which is more 20% resolution than a 4k monitor.

Using the EIZO 2k for image edits and serious large prints.

Also the Apple studio display 27", which is surprisingly sharp and accurate.

EIZO is overkill for photos... dell ultra sharp or benQ is just fine.

Get out and take pictures peeps.

The Apple Studio Display excels in almost every area except for the 60fps refresh rate. I love my ASD but it’s really hard to get used to the lower frame rate after using 144hz+ displays for years.

I usually like the Viewsonic VP line, but am now using Dell Ultrasharps (3 of the U3223QE).

Tried BenQ but wasn't crazy about the colors even after color calibration.
