"Tethered Capture with Sony ( Edit: Lightroom Classic, only )

Lightroom Classic now supports tethered capture for Sony cameras. You can capture photos and change camera settings right from Lightroom Classic. From the floating tether bar, you can seamlessly work on live sessions, apply presets, and control the tethered camera's Shutter Speed, Aperture, ISO, and White Balance. "

Experimenting with Sony tether set up now w/ the A1 on macOS Sonoma:

FYI Adobe advises: "In your Sony camera settings, select PC remote mode. To find the setting, refer to the manual for your particular camera model."

Success. *Very fast, responsive with USBC cable connection

Sony A1 v2.01

Select MENU → (Network) → [Cnct./Remote Sht.] → [Remote Shoot Function] → [Remote Shooting] → [On].

"When connecting with a USB cable:

Connect the USB Type-C terminal on the camera to the computer with the supplied USB cable.
Next, select [Remote Shoot (PC Remote)] on the screen displayed on the camera."

Lightroom Classic:

Select File > Tethered Capture > Start Tethered Capture

I use C1 for tethered work but I need it like live so may try it. One thing I do is shoot and goes to big screens in ballroom as they walk runway they come up immediately. I do this with jpeg for the speed . Worth trying it out

Nice in theory, but I can't get LightRoom to recognize my A1. Tethering still works in the Sony Image Edge app so the USB settings are correct.

I have not upgraded my A1 to the latest firmware yet because of all the issues, and having to go through and reconfigure the entire camera. I suspect that this may be the problem. Can anyone confirm that Lightroom Tethered shooting for the Sony A1 works with version 1.31, or must I upgrade to get it to work?

Thanks

Better late than never! I bought a USBC cable like 5 years ago assuming it would just work.

You might try uninstalling Imaging Edge as its drivers might actually interfere with other tethering software (it did with CO sometime ago...).

Then it must be something else I am missing in my configuration. Well, at least I don't have to upgrade the firmware.

Can you give me the camera configuration you are using please?

For a starter, before I try uninstalling it, do you have Imaging Edge Installed on your Computer?

Thanks,

Steve

Ok for the FM knowledge base. I did uninstall the Image Edge Software and the Tethered Shooting in the new LightRoom worked perfectly. Super fast and easy. I am on an A1 with firmware v1.3.

So, if you are having trouble connecting through LightRoom try uninstalling Image Edge.

Thanks to J4nu for the suggestion! The FM Community is so awesome!!!

FWIW. I have and regularly use the Imaging Edge Desktop Suite of Apps ( latest version) installed on my macOS computer. I didn't have any problems installing LRC new Sony Tether feature. In my case I just had to make sure my Sony A1 settings were in order according to LRC and the A1 manual, along with a proper cable. I listed my setup steps above if anyone is interested:

Regardless, glad to hear you managed to get your Sony LRC Tether operational(valuable feature IMO), and of course your experience removing the Imagine Edge Desktop app could help others as well.

Yes, I did have all the in camera settings correct. Not sure why Image Edge software interfered but uninstalling fixed it. I tested with the OEM cable that came with the camera. Once that was working properly I switched to my long Tether Tools cable and it also worked flawlessly.

I am so happy to be shooting directly into LR finally.

I have Imaging Edge on my computer.

My Camera settings:

Camera > [Transfer/Remote]>[PC Remote Function]>
PC Remote= On
PC Remote Cnct Method= USB
Connect without Pairing= Enable
Still Imag. Save Dest.= PC+Camera
PC Save Image Size= Original
RAW+J PC Save Img= RAW & JPEG
PC Save JPEG Size= Large size

Camera > [Smartphone Connect]>[Remote Shoot Setting]>
Still Img Save Dest.= Smartphone+Cam
Save Image Size= Original
RAW+J Save Image= RAW & JPEG
Save JPEG Size=Large Size

----

Sometimes, if at first, my lightroom won't save images from camera, a restart of the application fixes it. It works fine after that.
