Trying out some different looks in the Cypress swamp with the 16mm...

Sony ILCE-7RM5 Viltrox 16mm F1.8 FE ƒ/8.0 16.0 mm 1/125 iso320

Sony ILCE-7RM5 Viltrox 16mm F1.8 FE ƒ/8.0 16.0 mm 1/125 iso200

Things were looking up

Sony ILCE-7RM5 Viltrox 16mm F1.8 FE ƒ/8.0 16.0 mm 1/125 iso100

Cypress knees in IR conversion

Sony ILCE-7RM5 Viltrox 16mm F1.8 FE ƒ/5.6 16.0 mm 1/250 iso125

This is the original, I took it with the B&W IR conversion in mind so I made sure to not overexpose. The IR is my own preset saved in PS, it's not true IR, I know, and it's not even what PS thinks typical IR should be, it's to my personal taste of what I like to pop in a quasi IR. Comments welcome.

Lovely work !!! Each offers a different feel and view of the swamp. The black and white really resonates with me for the feel deep in a swamp. All nicely done.

I wish! But thanks for even putting me in the same galaxy as ***Clyde.

***I met Clyde at an Art Show in Dunedin Fl many years ago. It was early days and you know, one of those more of an Arts & Crafts fair than an "art show" affairs. This was outdoors where people are selling all manner of creations like crocheted dream catchers to custom hand painted lettering made up of animal characters into a welcome sign while you waited, all sold from their identical white tents.

Clyde had a double size tent, and he NEEDED it for the amazing giant prints he had on display. I was shocked anyone would transport such immense and beautifully framed things to a show like this. It struck me as something very special back then, and still would today. His work is even better in person than on screen or magazines. The detail you can find staring at an image is seemingly endless and his printing is perfection.

Speaking of large, Clyde is a pretty close approximation of a cross between a lumber jack and Santa Clause, or he was to a younger me back in those days, I haven't kept up or seen any recent pics of him. I guess you'd have to be pretty stout to lug a huge field camera and film plates out into the swamps. I was lugging a small 4x5 plate film camera around in those days
(I was probably trying to emulate Ansel, White & Weaver with the "zone system" in those days before I knew Clyde) and couldn't imagine hauling an 8x10 in those conditions! Despite all that he was a gentle soul and answered all my dumb questions very patiently. He is a special fella for sure.

Thanks Karl, you are too kind. As I've mentioned elsewhere, I'm just paying some of that forward, and I benefit myself as much or more than I give back, just from being here and studying people's wonderful work on here.

I was wishing I had my tripod for a couple of these shots, some landscape photographer I am not bringing a tripod! ... but I will next time. I was out birding, and brought the 16mm on a lark in case the birds were hiding.

I'd like to try some high res multi shot and I'd like to compare pixel shift vs/ focus stacking, as long as the wind isn't blowing.

The shot you like, looking up into the cypress canopy with the sun starburst was one I've had in mind a while. I was hoping to get more DOF and foreground detail than I got, while still having the canopy sharp with detail, so I'm probably going to keep trying until I hit it just right, so you may see that type shot again someday.

It would be cool to get the uber depth of field and detail for big prints like the old F64 club guys were going for without the lens diffraction of stopping down so much. I have a gut feeling that the focus bracketed stacks will be more rewarding than the extra DR of the pixel shift images... Lots of idea's floating around in this head, and not enough free time to play.

Thanks Greg, me too, sometimes I'm torn, and loading out my camera bag for the day always makes my head hurt from having to choose only what I can carry. ! Sneaking in a wide or UW landscape lens is always my temptation.
