I don't speak Japanese but I think this video does the best job of showing how sharp this lens is and how incredibly deep you can crop: https://youtu.be/3xHEp2rZfwE?si=hgOIms9mSjK6rM_Z

I'm considering picking this up or a used xf 150-600. I know they're different use cases but I've always thought a lot of the 150-600 images people share look soft... it seems like you'd get better performance from this by cropping in (assuming you can get the shot in the first place).

At the risk of being labelled a Usage Nanny, technically a "spif/spiff/etc." is a sales incentive paid to a seller after moving inventory, by a manufacturer or distributor.

The spifs of Fuji and Minolta gear could add up quickly, when I see sold cameras at a national chain in the '90s. Nikon was stingy, Pentax kinda random, Olympus occasionally offered a plum spif, whereas Canon...forget it!

I held 500mm in my hands at the store, and took a few pictures with it (unfortunately not on my card), and I was surprised how small and lightweight it was comparing to my expectations. Absolutely lovely lens.

I am currently testing the Fuji 150-600 on my X-H1. I can assure you that at the long end it is quite sharp, as good as sthe Nikon 500mm PF with 1.4X extender, both at f/8. The real issue with the 150-600 for me (air shows and BIF) is the lack of options on the lens image stabilization -- in order to get sharp panning shots of prop planes at low shutter speeds I have to disable IS in the camera menu. I can easily leave the D500 plus 500mm PF in VR Sport Mode and have double the keeper rate compared to the Fuji with IS disabled.

IMO the reason you haven't seen many sharp examples posted online is most of those who have purchased this lens haven't developed the skill required to use any long tele. I have seen people post soft images from a Canon 600mm f/4 back in the day simply due to atmospherics or lack of skill. You have to work with glass at these focal lengths, it is not point and shoot.

I recently picked up the X-H2 and 150-600 for a trip this summer. I'm certainly not disappointed with the sharpness of this combination. Any sharpness issues I've had are mostly related to shutter speed which is a failure on my part not the camera or lens.

Went to the local zoo this past weekend and am impressed with the sharpness. I think the resolution is quite noticeably better than with my older 100-400.

Well, I pre-ordered one from two of the retailers I buy from, now I have two inbound on the day of release. One of them has to go! I'll let it go for what I have in it plus shipping. I'll add pictures once they get here. Jon

Talked to my buddy Damion at Samy's today and he said he thought the new Fuji stuff was there but that there was an embargo until Monday, so we should see this very soon. Can't wait.

Likewise, I talked to two stores today. Both said they got the cameras in yesterday and today. 1 of the stores also got their 1st 500mm f/5.6 lens in. Both stores said they are not allowed to sell until Monday.

Yup, my Samy's rep has mine arriving in a few days. It'll be at my doorstep soon, but I won't be there until 7-1. I'm using my 100s and the great little X100VI in Slovenia and Italy until then. I'll open the carton as soon as I get home.......

Iím picking mine up in Sydney on Monday. The store received it on Friday. No idea how many they got.

Iím off to Uluru in late June, then on an adventure involving multiple cars, a couple of overnight hikes, then the Ghan (a train) up to Darwin and picking up another vehicle for exploring Litchfield and Kakadu, which will include some boat tours too.

Last time I did a similar trip, but all based out of one vehicle, and took a Nikon and 600 f/4. This time Iíve been packing and repacking and looking at my Canon R3 with 600 f/4 in the backpack and thinkingÖ how on earth will I make this work?

So, Iíve acquired this lens and will gleefully sacrifice the insane AF capability and range of the 600 f/4, knowing that I will just enjoy the trip immensely more with a smaller rig. While I know the GF isnít optimised for birding, being able to extend its range to use it to do so is marvellous for this trip. I can take my best landscape cameraÖ and ALSO avoid having to lug around an enormous specialised birding set up.

So, while if I was heading out to shoot some vagrant that had turned up and wanted to not risk missing a shot, it would be the R3 and 600 f/4Ö but I have a feeling Iíll be using that setup less and less for mixed travel/bird nerd trips. Iíll let you know how I go!

I would be nice to see some examples from people who know what the hell they are doing and who have some actual wildlife shooting experience. So far the Youtube videos that Fuji have allowed are downright embarrassing.

This isn't the most artistically compelling stuff but a few of the image samples in this gallery are insanely sharp if you download the original. According to their test charts it is sharper than the 250.

As they draw comparisons between the two, it would have been helpful and informative had they also included the GF 250 test results that allowed them to state this conclusion.

I'm not interested in how it's standing up against the 250, though. I'm curious how it stacks up to lenses in its class, like the Z 400/4.5, Canon 400/4, Sony 300/2.8 with 1.4x, etc.

If it's sharper than the 250, that'd be high praise†I just got back from Samy's L.A. with the 500 but I'm eating lunch first, then a retouching gig for Castrol and then finally I'll get to the lens. I don't know how many copies Samy's got in but I do know they're now on backorder there. Glad I got in on the first round for a change.

Here are some other charts from digital camera world. Couldn't find the Canon 400/4 but did find the 400/2.8. GFX seems to be substantially sharper than all of them, especially in the center, though I imagine that's to be expected for medium format.

Wow, the Centre is just the nyquist frequency by aperture graph. It absolutely stomps the Canon and the Z lens.

Not the most ideal day here in L.A. being fairly hazy, but shooting outside the studio across the parking lot, across Jefferson Blvd and down our back alley, this lens appears to be as sharp as any of the other lenses I own, shot at f/5.6, f/8 and f/11 both with and without the 1.4 TC. There might be a very slight detail hit with the converter, but this was by no means any sort of elaborate test, just a first git to know her introduction. Autofocus feels very fast and crisp on the 100 II, and again, have not tried the 100s bodies yet and complicated backgrounds go nicely out of focus on closer subjects shot at or near wide open. A very good start, and five pounds lighter than the Canon.

Ah, of course, more Fuji marketing bullshit. They advertise the lens as being 48.5 ounces. Yeah, it's 48.4 ounces without either front or rear cap, without the bayonet on hood and more importantly, without the tripod foot. So, technically they made it in by an RCH, but, once again, disingenuous. The real weight the way most of us are going use the lens is 3lbs. 11.1oz or 59.1 ounces, or 10.7 ounces over their claims in the real world. I mean, who strips the lens down to no caps or mounting foot for a weigh in. Fuji does, that's who.
