Looking for a bag that can handle two Canon R3's, one with 100-500 attached and one with a 24-105 2.8 Z (about the size of an EF 70-200 2.8) attached. Not for hiking, this is for sports shooting so really just running from the car to the fields and moving between a few different games. Don't really need more space than that, other than just batteries, cards, etc.. but really do not like putting the gear together in the field with grass flying around and dropping body / lens caps, etc..

I have a Shimoda X50 for hiking, but the large ICU won't fit the 100-500 attached on the R3. I've got some f-stop shoulder bags, but putting them in lens first (lens towards the bottom of the bag), the R3 + 100-500 pops up a bit to where the zipper is smashing the top cover down onto the LCD screen of the camera.

I could do two bags, but really would like to considate onto one.. backpack vs shoulder/sling isn't a big deal, just as long as the equipment fits!

Should be no problemo. Your title threw me off. I thought you were packing two superteles. I can do one supertele with camera and extenders attached, but two - that's sasquatch territory.

Anyway, for a shoot-from backpack (i.e. the pack is on a table or the ground), and travel, I use the Think Tank Airport Commuter, see first two photos.

For a lesser capacity, I like to use the Cocotte Fred courier bag, http://www.cocotte-equip.com/english/items/fred.html

The second set of two photos shows Fred with an attached 70-200/2.8 (hood in shooting position), and so I expect the 100-500 would fit, no problem (without hoods, the RF 100-500L is 9mm longer than the EF 70-200/2.8L IS II). In the last photo, the 70-200/2.8 that's under the EF 24-105/4L IS, is in an Op/Tech SnootBoot, like many of the lenses in the second photo of the TT Airport Commuter.

Also, you could consider taking your gear to a big sports outlet, and trying shoulder bags for sports equipment and/or gym bags.

Thank you! I ordered the Airport Accelerator which looks like it should fit similarly to how you have your Commuter setup. Thanks for the tip on the Fred bag! I have a Wotancraft Pilot 10L which will fit a gripped body and 100-500 (hood reversed) length wise, similar to the Fred setup.. but there may be instances where 2 bags is better than the big ThankTank backpack, so I may consider the Fred as an alternative to buying another Wotancraft pilot.

I appreciate it! Will throw some pics up of the two when the Thank Tank arrives this week.

Actually Fred looks really interesting.. I just emailed them to see if two Capa inserts would stack on top of each other in a single Fred.. might have to look at an Alfredo, but will see what they say.

Edit - Heard back, 2 Capa inserts will fit in a Fred.. but they only have one in stock, and won't be making more for another 2-3 weeks.. so might check back in at that point.

Along the lines of Cocotte (thanks for that link - good to learn about a Canadian messenger bag option), there is CourierWare: https://courierbags.com

I have a few of their smaller messenger bags (XS and S sizes) that I had Eric (the guy who makes/designs them) add some custom modifications for use with a Leica M system. I liked having the ability to start with a basic no-frills bag and add only the specific options I needed. For example, I worked with him to optimize the inside back and front pockets with light padding (1/8" IIRC) so that they would each hold/cradle an M lens without the need for a standard padded photo insert that would stiffen and bulk up the bag. But for your application - to carry an R3 with attached lens, then you'd probably be better with the appropriate size bag with photo insert.

Airport Accelerator came in today.. Plenty of room, though the camera body inserts around where the lens pokes through are snug with the R3.. have to fiddle to get the body in, but it goes without too much of a battle each time now that I moved the rather rigid center divider and dividers with the lens hole a bit. Not quite as perfect as a fit as I'd hoped, but it does the job and does it far better than anything else I have! R3 with 100-500 with hood in place, and gripped R6 + 24-105 2.8Z (hood reversed out of laziness). The lens that's tucked away is actually an RF 24-70 2.8. Could easily get another 3 decent sized lenses in there if I wanted.

Thanks for sharing your photo of the Accelerator. I usually use a roller case for my sports events (longest lens is the Canon 200-400) but have been considering a backpack option for when a roller won't be as suitable. The Accelerator was one I was considering. I also looked into Gura Gear options, Mr Jan Gear's Boris IV and the Tenba Roadie 22 backpack. I somewhat prefer the latter two because they're rear access designs (keeps the back panel clean if having to put the bag down on suboptimal surfaces), though the Tenba has a top access compartment that encroaches into the main compartment space but should still leave enough room for what I want to carry. It looks like the Tenba has a similar 'cradle' insert like the one in the Accelerator that holds cameras with lenses attached.

I like the looks of that Boris IV! Might have to put the on the wish list..

I have a Shimoda X50 for hiking / outdoors where things can get pretty dirty, and it opens as you describe, with the access on the back panel that would be against your back when in use. It is very nice.. Thankfully the most I run into with sports is just wet grass, so not the end of the world, but I can see why that could be important.

I would not consider the 100-500 or 24-105 to be long lenses, so there are a TON of bags that can fit what you need.

I am partial to the Shimoda 35L v2, which is perfect size for carryon internationally and has an internal ICU.

Here are two different setups in that bag

Yes, there are a million bags that can fit them.. the challenge was fitting them both, while both lenses are attached to gripped bodies at the same time.. I have a Shimoda 50L and it can’t do it.

I have the Gura Gear 22L and the 32L. I have the R3 & R5, and the 22L takes both bodies and lenses.
