I am more of a portrait shooter and do weddings here/there. I use my portrait experience to do pretty good at the bride/groom and bridal party shots. I am still working on the other stuff, the getting ready/the little things.

When I do example my HS Sr shoots, I use both my Fuji and Canon, the clients seem to like the variety.

I see a common thing on Youtube/Social media the couples pics are more edited to light & airy and soft then you have the reception shots that are more “standard”.

For the seasoned shooters, what is your process? Are you talking to the client ahead of time on their wants? Are you using the same profiles for all your weddings for a consistent look prospective clients know what they are getting?

We did 240 weddings last year. Only one couple specified any specific processing desires (her request was minimal flash and minimal contrast).

Do what you want, just be consistent. If you read bride's threads on Reddit, many complain that photographers processing varies too much from what they booked and what was delivered. Don't be trying a new preset every week. Get a look, lock it down, and stick with it.

IMO (I'm 60 years old) if you stick to emulating Fuji 400H film, nobody will be embarassed by that look in 10+ years. It's timeless. Skin tones are natural, greens are green (not that trendy puke brown), and the contrast is right on the money.

If you want to grab a few hero shots and do alternate (trendy) processing, that might be appreciated. Be sure to deliver the first version (matching the rest of the essay) then the alternates as "v2" "v3" an so on. That way, after the trendy look has faded, they have an elegant version for the ages that looks as if it was shot on Fuji 400

washed out look is blah... but there are plenty of brides who dig this.
some shooter always crush the blacks other really push the saturation for bold colors.

Just find a look you like and roll with it.

A key is to present what you like on a website/instagram.... you book on what you show.
which makes sense..... light and air all natural shooter vs very styled using off camera flash....

whatever 'look' ... this is through out the entire event.
Maybe provide a few special edited ones... being more creative.
