Just curious about the masses here. I'll start off by saying I totally understand using G&S and have no problem with the fee, and understand why people want to use it for high value purchases. However, every single time I have a G&S payment, no matter the $ amount. The money remains on hold even after confirmed delivery, and I have to call to get it released. They tell me to upgrade to a G&S account, but then you can't do F&F. Every time I call, they say it should release 24 hours after delivery, but it doesn't and they don't know why. What's your solution to this? Get a separate account for G&S? just angrily call each time? Wait the 14 days for the hold?

Odd, never had a hold for G&S payments. Sounds like account must have gotten flagged, I'd just make a new one.

I don't use PP much but did make about 6 sales on my photography equipment. That rare event must have sent up an orange flag because on one of the smaller sales they forced me to wait about the same amount of time before they released MY money.

Literally every time it's been G&S over like $100. I guess I could always make a new one but that's a pain.

I haven't had it happen to me, but I've had at least three people selling to me in the last six months ask after it arrives if I would confirm reciept so they could get paid. Paypal itself never tells me I need to do this, which seems silly, so now I check all transactions after arrival to be sure PP doesn't need me to confirm or so I can confirm quickly.

If you don't use paypal often, every transaction probably gets extra scrutiny. All banks monitor patterns. Anything that is new or an infrequent occurrence gets flagged.

Be cautious of creating a new account. Considering the ID vetting that paypal (and all other banks) now require, trying to create another account may get you flagged too.

It's PayPal's regular practice to put G&S fund on hold for various security reasons. The monthly threshold is very low for infrequent users, something like couple hundred dollars. Anything pass the threshold is put on hold. Paypal automatically adjusts the threshold limit based on previous months total transaction.

I've never had problem receiving my fund by the releasing date, but it could be a problem if someone needs the fund right away. Oh, creating a new PayPal account would not solve the problem.

Upgrade to a Business account does not mean you can’t accept F&F. Regarding the hold, have you gone through the step to verify your Paypal (essentially provide them your SSN and a mailing address)? Opening a new account would not solve this issue as you still have to establish yourself. Maybe ask your friends to send you money under F&F just to increase your transactions.

Other than that, not much else you can do during the hold. Asking the buyer to confirm delivery does help establish yourself over time. I have had several Paypal accounts and typically this was how I got through this period.

I have verified my account yes. And last time I called the rep told me that business accounts can't accept F&F, it gets auto converted into G&S.

Must be a new thing for Paypal regarding the Business account and F&F payments. Anyway, hopefully you found a way to resolve your issue.

I'd suggest you give Square a try. There are plenty of people out there using it for personal sales, and my experience using it for business has been first-rate, never an issue. They are a huge CC processor, very well known and trustworthy at this point.

+1. Square or Stripe. You can send invoices and process CCs. Stripe also offers some basic ACH at 1%.

I've never had a hold before but whenever I sell something, I use the "invoice" option. Not sure if that makes a difference.

I have dealt with similar issues and also was told it’s because my PayPal account is not used often enough for the amount of money being received that’s getting held up. Also can confirm that Business PayPal account cannot do F&F because I have a separate Business PP.

I usually do Zelle or Venmo when that’s an option now
