Did you try with a different SD card? I had similar issues with Sony Tough on my M10 (Orange light on shutoff, slow viewing, etc).

Actually it froze up twice yesterday with no memory card

I'm just saying if you get a good unit, it doesn't matter what you do and it's going to be reliable. Sony Tough card is the only nono. They don't even fit Sony a7 series that well. I just put in my normal Lexar x1800 and started shooting. There is enough quality of life upgrades with M11 over my M10R that I feel it's well worth it.

No issues with my M11-P black (and previously M11 Silver) either. It's hard to say. An authorized dealer with good return policy is a safer bet.

like everyone else says, yes take the refund NOW.

And I wouldn't go near a M11, used or new, with a 10 foot pole. Even the newest production run is having problems like yours. Instead get the M10 version of your choice. Different people have different opinions as to which, all valid. My personal opinion: I could have afforded any of them but after deliberating among all of them coupled with my needs and what I see from a 24mp sensor vs a 40+ sensor, I went with the M10.

Although I buy and sell frequently on FM, when I bought my M10, I went with KEH (would equally have gone with MPB if they had what I wanted at the time). Reason: with one of those two (and perhaps B&H used gear website, although I've found their prices higher than the other two) you can get a relatively inexpensive 3 year warranty against defects/accidents.

Good luck, and thank your lucky stars that B&W, the classy organization that it is, offered you a full refund!

So, my M11 is very very stable, and smooth operating. Instead of guessing around I suggest we try and set up your M11 exactly as I have mine. If it is still freezing then we know that it is either the firmware in your camera, or a hardware component. This is an experiment that i think could be valuable for many if it uncover useful information. I have been hoping to find a local person who is having freezing issues to try this, but so far all of my friends who shoot M11 have stable cameras too.

We could walk through the setup on a Zoom call if you like.

Just a thought, I am willing to invest the time if you are.

B&H will return the camera to Leica, Then it is Leica’s problem. B&H has the power to do that.

And for other saying buy an M10-R… Google M10-R locking up…

I wouldn’t go back to an M10-R after tasting the M11. The M11 is a better camera in every way. Sometimes you get a problematic copy and B&H will make it right.

I googled M10r locking up and the number of hits are nothing like with the M11.
It seems some people have had a few problems using the Visoflex and geotagging.
A couple with memory cards and not formatting in camera.

The M11 on the other hand - ooftah.

I've owned four M10-R bodies over the years (2 black, 1 silver, 1 BP) without encountering any freezes. However, in comparison, the three M11 bodies I tried experienced freezes. It was particularly frustrating during review tests on a tripod, as I had to disrupt the setup by removing the camera from the tripod, taking out the battery, and restarting the process. The freezes also occurred during candid shots, causing me to miss crucial moments. It was infuriating. Most of these issues happened with the initial firmware versions. Since I purchased the camera for personal use, I didn't want to be a beta-tester!

Oh well, still happy with Leica, but the M11 gave me a bad experience.

Leica has an issue on its hands. How many affected $9K cameras does Leica have sitting out there? If some of the recent cameras are also experiencing freezes, I find it unlikely to be hardware related.
Why can’t Leica resolve the problem, or have they, and how did they rectify it.

I can’t imagine dropping that kind of coin and being told it needs to go back to Germany, not to mention their track record of repair time. Do they provide you with a replacement and is the clock ticking on your warranty when new.
Would if the camera is out of warranty. What is the case then? Is the repair on me?
Not a very favorable scenario!

Personally, given all the helpful feedback here, I’d get the refund and find a M10, or better yet a M10R and move on.
Any M10 series cameras seem to have a pretty good track record without the dreaded trip back home.

Get out while the getting’s good!

To be fair to Leica, I'm confident they are diligently addressing this issue with their numerous firmware updates. It's possible there may also be hardware considerations involved. Nevertheless, I trust they will resolve it in due course. Personally, prioritizing reliability over the exciting new features of the M11 led me to explore other options.

Scratches or freezes, pick your poison.

Leica really needs to fix this issue on the M11s and issue a full explanation of the cause and the fix to restore confidence in their flagship camera. For a firm like Leic, reputation and quality is everything in the long run.
