p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Looking to do a second shooter event?

I haven’t shot a wedding in like 15 years and was a second shooter then and only did a couple. I’m a lifestyle family photographer on the side. Personal trainer full time. I want to try out weddings and it’s hard to get anyone to take you under. Any help would be great. I’m in NY 15 miles north of NYC

I’ve been shooting weddings for 10 years and I lived in NYC for quite some time before I left. I will say it will be easier if you open a Pro account on Fash.com and join New York Weddings Facebook group. It has 17k followers and you can message potential clients with your portfolio. You will probably find a reputable photographer on that group to take you under. Good luck!

I had a hard time getting someone to hire me. I have portrait and fashion photography experience, but no weddings. I could only get hired as an assistant. He had me shoot and edit after seeing I knew how to use my camera and lights. I left him after 5 weddings in 1 month when payment and rate issues came up.

My photos from those 5 weddings got me hired by a few national wedding companies as a 2nd shooter, no editing. Pay is not great but it is better than the independent guy.

After I build a bigger portfolio with the national companies, I will try to get 2nd shooter work from reputable independents.

Orion Photo Group. They consist of 3 brands: By Design, George Street, Lily & Lime.
