GFX 100 II AF-S / AF-C question (maybe 100S as well)

p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · GFX 100 II AF-S / AF-C question (maybe 100S as well)

A question about AF-S and AF-C settings.

In AF-S (with "Focus Mode selector"), I would like to have it set to small central focus point (so single point). Always, as I like to focus there and recompose.

In AF-C (again with the "Focus mode selector"), I would like to have set to Wide/Tracking, as a standard as soon I select AF-C. Focussing point in centre of the frame. But now ready to track and tracking ofcourse.

Now it seems, that if I flip between AF-S and AF-C, then either the single focussing point without tracking is on AF-C , OR in AF-S I get to see a number of square points..erratically moving across the screen until green.....so...sure a different setting and certainly not precise enough for what I want.

Can someone help me out here? What do I have to change to get my preferred setting??

Thank you!

(Don' t know, but maybe the same in GFX100S (?)

By the way...I posted this question on DPR as well. Don't know if someone there will /can answer though.

So... I am a newer user of the GFX system, and my experience is the GFX 100s, so IDK if the 100ii is the same or different. That said, with the 100s you cannot set the AF-S or AF-C to perform with a different af area/mode as you selct that function separately. In the main AF menu, you can customize the size of each of the 4 AF mode areas to several different sizes or zones -- single point I set that to small point, multi I set it to a medium size, wide tracking I currently use the entire screen, and ALL I set to small-medium. You can also assign a fn button or Q menu item to quickly select one of those 4 AF area/modes (I use a Q menu item.)

So the way it works *for me* on the 100s is there is a lever next to the VF that selects AFS, AFC or M. I mainly use AF-S with single or ALL, and AF-C with multi or tracking, and simply select those as desired via the Q menu. I have pre-set the size of those each to my preference in the main AF menu as I described above. Hope this helps.

I had one added thought for you -- you can save AF area AND size in the C banks. As such you could have say C1 set for your single point and C2 saved identically except for AF wide-tracking... Obviously you'd still need to switch the AF mode lever to S or C as well, but it'd be pretty quick.
