Amazing set of creatures Paul! The long horn beetle looks like something out of an old kaiju movie, heh. The sense of scale as he crosses the twig almsot could pass for a fallen tree. Very cool.

Fantastic work! I'm not so much a macro photographer, but I do love what you're doing.

Paul, I really enjoy these images! This is a very special "variety pack" of the types of critters I most love to see! TFS!

Paul, your work is outstanding in every way!
I have been to the Ecuadorian Amazon several times but never on my own. I wish I could take a solo trip to see some of the other critters rather than just birds and mammals!
If anything, I would have composed the Bothriechis in landscape mode, as it almost touches the left side of the frame.

Thanks Brian, Matt, Mary, Ronny and Juan!

Hey Juan, thanks for the kind words and I totally agree with you about the composition of the Bothriechis. All I can say is that it was tightly framed for a reason, since there were some ugly foreground elements. Impressive that you picked up on that.

Cheers

These are stellar. Would you mind giving an overview of your process? Are these lit off camera? They have a very unique look to them.

Thanks tsunathanh.

I'll generally use a Voigtlander 110mm f/2.5 lens with or without a 1.4xTC and 16mm extension tubes.
Most are lit with an off camera tripod mounted Profoto A1X with a photofllex XS lightdome. The larger background shots like the last shot and harlequin beetle had a second flash to provide some additional lighting.
The camera trapping (Trumpeter shot) is its own thing and uses Cognisys sensors and camtraptions triggers, and anywhere from 3 to 7 flashes.
