After an incredible time shooting wildlife on vacation last year I resolved to get into seeing more wildlife locally. I was fortunate to be able to upgrade my kit and have done two outings over the past week. Earlier this week I went to a local spot that's known for its short eared owls. I setup on the viewing deck and could see them flying around the far end of the field. As the sun light was waning three of them flew across the field, one almost directly overhead. I was able to grab a few decent shots which was an amazing experience for my first time photographing them. Hopefully I'll be able to return a few more times before they leave in April.

Hi Zach. You got a couple of good looks and nice shots here. This year was my first time shooting them. I found they are not a easy subject. In my area they don't come close and we have a small window before sunset to shoot. Hope to see more from you.

Thanks Karl! It was a great first outing and I'm hoping we'll have good weather this month so I can get back out there.

Thanks John, they certainly are challenging and it certainly seems like it'll be complete luck if I can get one flying low and close by. They flew overhead where I was and of course then after the sun was down they were flying low to the ground all over the place except for where I was. They've possibly adapted to the viewing platform and don't get too close to it.
