It seems that Micro-Weddings are trending in our area. There's seems to be plentiful discussion regarding the number of guests that would be considered a "micro" from 10 to 40 wedding guests. Personally, I consider a micro wedding to be no more than 40 wedding guests. We had a couple that booked a micro wedding package, but then mentioned that approximately 80 wedding guests should be expected and wanted us to add a second photographer before signing a contract. We politely said that for our micro weddings, we use only one photographer for 6 to 7 hours as the smaller guest list makes this more manageable.
What's your take on Micro weddings? Is this trending as a more budget friendly alternative? Are clients sneaking guests in at the reduced pricing? What do you consider a reasonable guest list?

Micro what.... whatever. 250 guest count shooting by myself.
Granted all in one location.
And more than once.

For me it is more about the overall budget.
Not about the guest count.
I have shot several weddings where you need a 2nd because of the plentiful of things to capture.
And there were only 20-25 guest.

Micro means smaller budget... cool.

What does it matter 45 or 125 guest count?

The guest count matters less than the overall duration of the wedding they've booked, but more couples are asking about shorter (up to 6 hours) intimate weddings that have fewer than 40 guests. Couples are way more budget savvy and overpriced wedding photographers, venues and catering factors in to that. Also, I can shoot a micro wedding and have my associate shooter work another wedding on the same day. I'm simply curious about if this is a trend for other photographers? Couples can look at our portfolio and pricing, but many are interested in the smaller, shorter ceremony. Having these two options allows us to book more smaller weddings often on the same day than only booking half of the traditional ones.

For me, a micro wedding is a 3hour coverage. I work with two planners who put these together and have a network of media vendors. One of my planners has a strict limit of 18 guests, add the couple and that's 20 people — full stop.

I often bring a voice-activated lightstand on these coverage as they're very fast-paced and our are in mountain vista where clients want the view over perfect lighting. You have to fill (often) on the shade axis and it's way more efficient to have someone holding a HSS light on a stick.
