I'm tempted to upgrade to the iPhone 16 Pro/Pro Max mainly because of the 5x telephoto lens. Apparently it is like a 120mm lens (for FF) which is great for portraits and some concerts/sports. I am a sucker for shallow DOF and I am not sure if the iPhone can do the 'just one eye in focus' shot like here with the x100VI @ f/2. And BTW, I also like to shoot portraits at f/4-f/5.6 to get all the facial features in focus.

I hear you on that! I’ve got the iPhone 15 Pro Max, and to be honest, I don’t see much reason to jump to the 16 yet. The camera upgrades have felt pretty incremental recently. I went from the 12 Pro Max to the 15, and that was a solid leap, but for now, I’m happy with what I’ve got. I do love the versatility of my x100VI, but I find myself reaching for the phone more often because it’s just so quick and convenient, especially for everyday shots. The x100 usually only comes out when I’m traveling.
Phone cameras these days are really impressive, especially with all the different apps and editing options—it’s hard to beat that flexibility. But I totally agree on the shallow depth of field. It’s just not the same on a phone, especially for portrait shots. For those, I always go with the x100 or my Sony cameras. Nothing beats that smooth bokeh and the precision you get with a dedicated camera, especially at those wider apertures. I think phones still have a way to go before they can replicate that dreamy, razor-thin DOF look, but they’re getting closer for sure!
