What a fantastic photo, Peter, and from a great angle.
The shot contains a lot of history, most notably the twenties-era Hotel Figueroa and the partially visible pyramid-topped L.A. City Hall above it, which dominated the skyline well into the sixties.
It's taken over fifty years, but L.A. finally has a skyline.
Well done.

Let's stay in touch and see what happens after the next storm. March 8th will be out for me as I'm shooting over at Village Recorders in W. L.A., and of course that will likely be the best day, but we'll see.

Joseph - The lens has an Arca-Swiss compatible replacement foot on it, which is mounted onto an Arca-Swiss Cube on top of the largest 5 Series Gitzo Gigantic tripod, which, when shooting something seven miles away, still showed up a tiny bit of vibration if there was any breeze, so I built a little rubber padded U shaped yoke which I attached to a small universal A/S foot which then mounts to a Gitzo 3541 which then gets cranked up under the hood of the 500mm and then it's ultra stable. This photo more or less shows the setup although I wasn't really thinking about that when I took it so it's not the best, but you'll get the idea.

These clear days are stunning. They don't happen often enough and especially to get to the later light from the west to light things up.

We usually have Clean air after the rain.

We will have good visibility today and tomorrow due to the strong Santa Ana wind blowing the smog away.

A wonderful image! It has such a 3-D feel with the mountains looking like a separate layer. As an east coaster, I'm shocked to see snow covered mountains anywhere near LA...not something I would think of when picturing downtown LA, even from a distance. Well done!

These shots always make me think that someone just picked L.A. up and planted it in Colorado and so few folks realize you can be in the snow in an hour or so, depending on where you're starting from. I used to go back country skiing at Mt. Waterman in the San Gabriels overlooking the L.A. basin and then be shooting in the studio that afternoon.

Man that's such a nice skyline. Growing up in the outskirts of LA County i've grown up seeing the LA Skyline off in the distance (on a clear day) , but this photo really breathes new life into a distant view i grew accustomed to. Very cool photo, thank you for sharing

Thank you. When it's clear, it's a world class sight and when you're there in person it feels almost otherworldly.

The snow on the mountains looks great!

I am very jealous -- I tried to capture the same view on Feb 25 hen I was visiting LA, but I could barely see the mountains through the smog. I didn't even bother unpacking the camera and drove off to get some shots downtown.

Yeah, that can happen. If you had waited two days, it was phenomenal. The ones I've posted this year were shot on the 27th.

It was very windy all day yesterday and I went up there to the park and there was just too much dust in the air throughout the entire basin. I waited two hours and it was too hazy and never cleared up. Figured all that wind would have helped but that was not the case. Might be done for the year now unless we get a late season storm.

Not a good day yesterday. High wind throughout the LA Basin gusting 50-60 mph.

Wind has now died down for another beautiful smog free day in LA.
