Anyone has real life experience with the Leofoto LS-323C? Lots of reviews of the 324 and 325, but I will buy a 4 or 5 section tripod only when hell freezes over. This will replace a Benro Mach3 TMA27 which weighs the same, but is not as tall and it's legs are thinner.

I used to share that opinion of 3 versus 4 section legs. I had the 323 legs but found them too difficult to carry on my backpack due to the collapsed length. Current 4 section legs are as stiff as I need and much easier to carry. 1500mm is my magic number for extended height. The Leofoto leveling series legs are longer than their non-leveling counterparts. The LS-324CEX leveling legs are just over 1500mm extended and as stable as the 3 section legs.

Yes, that was one of my concerns. The tripod with the largest collapsed length I have is the Benro TMA27C and that is a full 1.1" shorter than the LS-323C. Here is a useful video on the LS-3xxc series
https://youtu.be/yXqfczA_VtQsi

I wish they made the 324CEX without the leveling head. I have zero use for it and it is responsible for much of the weight increase over the 323C. Unfortunately Leofoto's ranger series is a complete mess. They sell the 324-CL which is a massive 2m tall but over 27 inches collapsed.

I have the LS-323C, as I also shared the same view with the other poster, that it has a long collapsed length, which I find very frustrating to travel with. The legs have narrow open to make it higher when fully expanded at the cost of stiffness, in open field with wind, you will see the camera view shake a lot, as it could not damp the force well. So I switch to 4-section tripods, and the LS-323C stays at home to mount camera for music recording.

Please be excuse for my rusty English.

The Leofoto parts are largely interchangeable. I have swapped the leveling and non-leveling apexes between LS legs before. The Leofoto US store sells the static apex separately (https://leofotousa.com/products/leofoto-tca32-compact-apex-convert-from-standard-to-compact-modular-apex-lm-32x-series-to-ls-32x-series). So you could buy the LS-324CEX complete tripod and swap out the apex.

Yes small leg spread is an issue with the Leofoto's. I have a super compact travel tripod from them, for when I absolutely need a tripod but weight is important, and out a grinder to the leg tabs to increase the stability.

Which 4 section tripod did you go with?

Maybe you should be looking at the 364C,,, which is essentially a shorter version of the 323c's legs, plugged into a 4-series top leg-section. You'd reduce folded length by over 5", and you'd lose just over an inch in extended height vs the 323C. The trade-off is weight (0.7 lbs difference)

In the end I went with RRS TVC-24mkII, best purchase ever.

I mean Leofoto now has a US distributor. You can just get one to try. Leofoto quality, from my experience, is certainly on the upper tier, but also with a lot of marketing fluff. You can also check out their new Ranger Pro series with 4 leg angles, double gasket leg locks, and slightly taller while just meeting the folded length with a head on for carry-on. A 3-section would not be travel friendly if you want it high enough. I personally recommend the Marsace MT series. The owner/designer is always looking to improve the stability of their tripods. Too bad they don’t have any presence in the US. You can get their tripods on Aliexpress.

4 leg angles but still a marginal small angle, which is the one that counts. I missed out on a good deal on 284cex, would have been $280 for a kit with the BV-10 head which I could have probably sold for $80. Oh well..

Will look into Marsace MT. Saw you get into a pissing contest with someone on another thread about those 😀

Some may find it interesting to note that all of the friction-leg-lock tripods on The CenterColumn.com "travel tripod rankings", were by a W-i-D-E margin, the poorest scoring when it came to stiffness. (Vuepoint, and MeFoto Backpacker Air.

It should be noted that Mefoto Backpacker Air has a 22mm top tube with 5 segments and only 20-degree primary leg angle. The Sirui T-025X with the conventional twist lock has similar specs with 26-degree primary leg angle. The Vuepoint Max has about the same top tube diameter and 28-degree primary leg angle. The Vuepoint Max is about the same as the Sirui in the stiffness score.
