canon R6 listed for $1399. If you login to your Canon account, it goes down to $1336.93. I had to cancel my original order at $1399 to re-order at $1336.93.

Agreed, especially if you time things right. I got a refurbished 28-70 f/2L over the holidays for $1999...(!) Even with the current instant savings of $270 off, it is $2,519 now. Sometimes prices get really crazy.

Edit: if this comment seems weirdly off topic it's because I intended to post it to this thread:

https://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/1847367

-----------

Back in early 2000s I bought but decided to return used copies of the EF 50mm f/1.0L, EF 20-35mm f/2.8L, and the glorious "magic drainpipe", the 80-200mm f/2.8L.

All of these lenses were introduced in the same year (1989). Oddly the two zooms did not have USM focusing, even though Canon had started rolling it out that year with the 50 1.0L and the 28-80 2.8-4L. They were nevertheless quick to focus, but IIRC lacked full-time manual focusing, something we have taken for granted with Canon USM lenses for decades.

None save the magic drainpipe could be considered competitive today optically, I imagine, but I would love to still have those as artifacts of their time. They were built like tanks too.

I believe I got the 50 1.0 for $600, haha.

Gary, I'd be more then happy to give you $600 for the 50 1.0 if you still had it

Has the 70-200 L f/4 ever been available refurbished?

Yeah, I bought one last year or so from Canon Direct. Pretty much every model eventually ends up as a refurb due to returns, overstock and replacement. I've been very pleased with it: a notch up in optical improvement over my prior EF 70-200 4L and smaller and lighter to boot. However it doesn't work with extenders and I miss having that ability.

Oh ok, I. noticed the refurb price is super close to retail compared to other lenses which have a much better discount so was wondering if it's just a matter of supply.

Some gear are not worth it, but as an example, $99 for the refurbished 50 1.8, $199 for the 16 2.8 & $299 for the 35 1.8 are a bargain. I bought my 50 1.8 for $79 last time it was on sale. Canon has the refurbished sale a few times a year, usually around certain holidays.

Yeah I ordered the 50 1.8 because why not at $99 even though it's not a focal length I use a lot but I might use it more because of the size and weight.
