I just replaced my techart v1 with etz21 pro as Techart now gave error message on my z8z9 z7ii and zf. I mainly uses the adapter with Sony 14/1.8 as there is no Nikon counterpart. Both firmware 1.34, 1.36 works perfectly fine.

I'm having issues with the ETZ21 Pro + Sony Zeiss 55mm 1.8 on the Z8. The AF on the 55mm pulses constantly. I have tried in AF-S and AF-C. Maybe because its an older lens? Other lenses work well and lock focus including 85 1.8, 40mm 2.5, 35 1.8.

Anyone else have issues with this combo?

Sony 55mm 1.8 now working much better with firmware 1.36.

I have both versions. They work most of time. But they often lock up at critical moments. Now I often think if I made a poor decision.

Update: I have recently acquired the Sony 70-200 f2.8 GM II and Sony 50 f1.2 GM and use them on both my Sony A7Riii and my Nikon Z9 (Firmware 5.0) with the Megadap ETZ21 Pro (with latest firmware). The lenses work perfectly and focus very quickly on the Z9. I purchased these lenses as they are alot lighter than the Nikon Z equivalents and I can use them on both my Nikon and Sony bodies. The Sony 70-200 is about a pound lighter than the Nikon Z equivalent (you can really feel the difference), and the Sony 50 is alot smaller than the Nikon equivalent.

Can anyone else confirm that firmware 1.36 has broken video af in AF-F mode?

If I was going to buy this adapter, I would definitely use those i series SIgma lens with it.
I see some of you mentioned them and confirmed they work ok.

What about those 20mm or 24mm Sigma lens and their distortions - will this be fixed straight in camera?
I ask as I do not do any PP, 99% of the time use SOOC jpgs.

Does anyone have Sigma 20/2, 24/2 or 24/3.5 lens and could confirm or show a sample of SOOC jpg from Nikon Z camera and Megadap adapter?

Since the camera "doesn't know" the lens you have attached, distortion will at best not be corrected, and at worst, corrected for a similarly spec'ed Nikon branded lens, instead of the lens you are using. If distortion of the used lens is negligible, then go ahead with SOOC, but otherwise, I'd shoot RAW and select the correct lens in Adobe Camera Raw. (In DxO PhotoLab for instance, you can't do that, though.)

I would go further and not bother adapting if distortion correction + jpeg is important. And the compact E lenses tend to have a lot of distortion and vignette.

It’s possible for smart adapters to keep their own distortion tables and communicate that to the camera—Fringer does it with their EF to GFX adapter. But i don’t think any of the E to Z adapters do—Megadap would have a list of supported lenses if they did.

Yeah, I was thinking of that too.
I dont understand why adapter with connection does not transfer lens details to the body to correct it.
how does that work on native lens on Sony? Which one does know what to do - body or lens sends correction details to body?

"Do you use Megadap ETZ 21 PRO?"
You didn't include NO as a choice, which would have been my pick.

The lens has the information which it sends to the body (otherwise you would need a firmware update for all cameras every time a new lens came out).

It might be possible for the adapter to read the lens correction, convert it to the body format, and pass it along to the body. But that requires reverse engineering two formats, and possibly doing some complex math to convert between them. I don’t know if we’re still at the “adapted lenses pretend to be F mount” stage, but…I could see it being a lot of work.

I got the ETZ pro with Z8 and 35mm gm and sigma 35mm f1.2.

ETZ firmware 1.37.

Functionality it is amazing. The lens button actually work for both sony and sigma lens. Adobe raw automatically recognise the lens and applied the corrections automatically. There is really nothing else you can ask for.

I think VR works... but not sure how to check.

I did some AF testing indoors with a human walking towards camera. The 3D tracking box works... hit rate for the sony seems higher and the sigma seems to have some pics slightly soft. But even my A9 with sigma has OOF indoors. I think the AFC is OK but need more testing before I can decide if AFC is ok.

A question about the adapter with the latest firmware. Does it support the subject recognition square to become green when in focus when using with lenses without contacts? There was a comment on a forum that after a firmware update this functionality started to work, so I would like a confirmation if anyone have tested it.

Just tossing in a data point here as someone looking to find my way into the Z-mount from EF- and L-mount...company unresponsiveness to technical support inquiries is a deal-breaker for me.

I wrote to both Megadap and Fringer (regarding their ETZ21 Pro and EF-NZ II respectfully) a few weeks ago to find out if they'd cleared/tested their adapters for use with the Z6III or whether their units would need a firmware update...

The folks at Megadap never replied, not even with an auto-response (2+ weeks and counting)...oofah, so much for my considering adapting FF E-mount Sigma DN lenses to Nikon to replace my L-mount versions! Hopefully there are other E-mount-to-Z-mount solutions to be had?!

On a positive note, the kind folks at Fringer did write back and gave the thumbs-up that they'd tested their adapter with Z6III and all was well with their current firmware, so I'll consider that using some old EF glass as a possible option should I decide to make the jump.

Anyhoo, that's all I've got.

Ok, i design ic for a living I think the Megadap circuits has probably very bad esd protection, that is why they have so many warnings about handling. U don’t really touch the contacts on your lens mount on camera but for the adapter if dismount it alone, u might touch the contacts which is on both sides of the ring. Trust me, u should not touch them.

I think that might solve a lot of reliability issues hopefull. I am planning to keep the adapter mounted with my sigma 35mm f1.2. This be a big stress test on the mechanical strength of the adapter, esp when the camera is swinging on my strap with the adapter supporting the heavy lens long periods of time… will report back if anything dies…

Exact same experience here. I currently own a Megadap ETZ Pro and previously owned the original non pro version. Emails sent to Megadap NEVER received a response. Why even provide oontact information? Fringer, on the other hand, has always been speedy and friendly in responding to inquiries. Alas, the Megadap ETZ is currently the best option for adapting E glass to Nikon Z so, abysmal customer service notwithstanding, I'll be sticking with them.

I have the non-pro and was majorly annoyed the Pro was announced a few weeks after I pruchased it. Still, the ETZ21 works great on my Sony 200-600G on the Z9, but I found the 100-400GM was not as good, with a far lower keeper rate. Not sure why it's worse.

I'm about to update fw, to v1.36 as I just noticed this improves 70-200 GM II performance.

A few shots from the Z9 + 200-600G combo showing it can keep up for BIF shots with very good success rate. It's because of this I'm not looking at getting the Nikon 180-600.
