I was also expecting something else (like 28mm), and I thought they would save all their new announcements to CP+. There should be more development announcements on 2/22, not sure what though.

This one was not at the top of my wanted list although I'm happy to see new E-mount release from Cosina after such long time I'll have to consider it but it's a bit pricey and I'm out of lens budget for the time being.

They say on the YouTube video that this will be available for user testing at CP+ so I will try to get my hands on one when I go there and have a go with it.

Hopefully more RF mounts especially the APO lenses that Sony and Nikon shooters are enjoying.

The 50/1 will be an excellent lens for Sony shooters. I find the RF 50/1 is an excellent lens with great sharpness, rendering and colors.

It's great to see a new Cosina e-mount release after all this time ... but on the other hand I personally don't think 50/1 is the right choice now. Well, let's see how it goes from here .

I think there should be more CV RF mount lenses on the way, though I'd anticipate only 1 at a time so probably no more than 1 new RF lens development announcement at CP+. I'd also expect something new for Z mount there as there hasn't been anything new since 1 year ago. Since we got this new announcement for Sony E today, not sure if there's going to be anything else at CP+ for E but we'll see. Also might be something new for X but there was a very recent 18/2.8 for X too so not sure about that either. Will be very interesting to see what the new development announcements will be

Yes I hope it sells well enough to not discourage them from making any more new E-mount lenses. I think it would make sense for them to make more "common" lenses in all FF mirrorless mounts in the future (of course tweaked for each sensor) as they already have M-mount covered with a lot of options and there are no notable gaps there.

Wonderful news for the E-mount world! I'm sure more lenses that recently launched will now follow suit.

My thoughts exactly ... not even sure how useable an F1.0 manual focus lens would be (wide open)

I can just hope that this might be the 1st in a new set of e-mount lenses (including the 28/1.5)

Finally! I'm glad Cosina didn't abandon the E-mount. With this release, we can anticipate even more lenses in the future. Perhaps Sony shooters will soon have a 28mm option?

For those who haven't seen it yet, here is my review of the Voigtlander 50mm f/1 Nokton lens in M-mount, which shares the same optical design as the new E-mount version:

I don't want to spoil the enthusiasm, but I am honestly not sure if these somewhat "lukewarm" ports of M-mount lenses are actually what the E/RF/Z-Mount users hope for and/or deserve.
While I like the VM 50mm 1.0 for some of its qualities (high contrast, easy to focus for an f/1.0 lens, usable on analogue cameras) and also bought one because of those,
I also know Cosina would have been able to design a way better lens for E/RF/Z-Mount when ditching the M-mount design constraints that led to a tiny rear element.

The 50mm 1.2 E and the 40mm 1.2 RF/Z are at least noticeably cheaper and smaller than Nikon's and Canon's 50mm 1.2 AF options,
but in the Sony world this new 50mm 1.0 E is pricewise in a similar ballpark as a used Sony FE 50mm 1.2 GM.
I am very much aware of the difficulty level of designing an f/1.0 lens compared to an f/1.2 one, but one really must be a manual-focus-aficiando,
to pick this 50mm 1.0 over a Sony FE 50mm 1.2 GM.

I prefer manual focus for all my faster lenses - this even includes DSLR ones. Rarely use AF with these even if available. This said, I don't have a very new mirrorless camera with many AF points - likely the AF capability has significantly improved here including usage of fast lens AF. But I got so used to do this manually in a very reliable way that I personally don't see a need for it as long as my eyesight is not significantly worsening. If I would opt for an E-mount lens as mentioned, it would be the Cosina MF lens also since I prefer its built over the plasticky Sony lens built. Just my 2 Cents.

While we're all wishing for a CV 28mm can we also add a prayer for another 180mm??

And as how the Contax 100-300mm has shown a recent upsurge in popularity would it be asking way too much for a similar CV? I'd pay good $$ for one of those!

I was told that a surprise announcement was coming today in anticipation to CP+, but didn't expect to be this great. I really thought Cosina was not producing E-mount lenses anymore and I'm glad it's not the case. The CV 50mm f/1 Nokton has pronounced outwards field curvature and the M-mount version didn't play nice adapted to the Sony sensor.

Don't get me wrong: I am happy about anyone who buys this, as it should lead to more future Cosina E-mount lenses

Nice to see the long drought for e-mount get a little rain. What's with the styling?

In for a vote for the CV 28 1.5 in E mount. Instabuy.

Watching the video with auto-generated English subtitles is fun. At 2:45 it says that the lens can record childcare information, which will help out all the parents.
