Seeing lots of advertising for HECS (https://hecshunting.com/) and am wondering if anyone is using this apparel? What about other methods of concealment? What's your favorite blind or camo pattern (obviously depends on season and ecosystem) for shooting wildlife?

Maybe I’m not devoted enough, but I don’t have any camo gear. I figure the raptors I shoot see me from a mile away, no matter what I wear and most mammals can’t see colors anyway.

Throughout the years that I archery hunted I saw countless camo clothing patterns come and go and I've concluded that being stealthy, silent and still, while wearing neutral colored clothing counts more than anything else you can do. Our ancestors wore wool clothing with muted Plaid patterns to great effect. I took a look at HECS and to my eyes it looks like gear by KUIU and Sitka. If you're interested in purchasing camo clothing in a pattern that I did find particularly effective take a look at Predator.

Otherwise I believe that ground blinds are more effective than camouflaged clothing as they hide the human outline. I've had better luck with wildlife photography in a blind than wearing camouflage clothing.

I don't personally have experience with HECS, but like you I've seen the advertisements recently, and happened to be talking about it when I was dropping a deer off for processing this past season. The processor, who has guided hunts out West and hunts whitetail all over the country, said he's had the HECS system for a few years and it works. I don't find it overly expensive, so plan on buying a set for archery this year.

If you happen to buy it let us know what you think.

how is the grounding maintained for the "Faraday cage" component of the system (Faraday Cage Technology Blocks Electrical Energy Emissions)? and then there is the Rogan "talk". in addition to the periodic table black taped to the wall.

Agree with being still and silent as one of the best ways to see more wildlife. I’ve read before how deer, for instance, can see blue colors very well - so blue jeans would apparently not be what to wear when going after deer. While sitting against trees, I’ve had squirrels within a few feet of me before and, when the wind is right, I’ve deer within 8 yards. In a blind, I’ve had turkey within 8-10 yards (their eyesight is so good that it’s tough to get them that close in the open!).

Lately, my camo patterns have been Huntsworth Tarnen or Cabela’s True Timber Strata. Those seem to blend better with shadows but when things green up it seems they stand out more. Also have some lighter weight 3D leaf scent block. I’ll use pop-up blinds or I’ll sit against a tree.

Like joboyle9808, I’ve heard others talking about it and have seen the ads. I figured that some photographers might have tried it so I posted this inquiry. I’m tempted to buy the HECS but know that much of the advertising claims don’t pan out in the real world.

Thanks to those who replied with their thoughts and opinions.

As I’ve said, I have no experience, but my curiosity got me to the Amazon reviews on this stuff. Lots of people seem to think it works, while others say it makes no difference. A common theme seems to be that the material is thin, so better to be used underneath other clothes, which then makes the coloring of course something that doesn’t matter.
