That's an Olympus 150-400 f/4.5 and it does focus close, but not that close.

Looks like a Canon 400mm f/2.8 L IS of some flavour, to me.

Yes, agreed, and probably a 5-series body. The lens even has a Canon lens strap.

Maybe. While having a delivery route I spent off time in Cook County IL forest preserves. One doe kept showing up in photos. I was actually able to approach her for photos. I was VERY leery when she had a fawn. I got a lowering of her head when I got out of my vehicle. Her "trust" obviously had limits.
