| p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Sony E UHS-II SD card - completely dead while shooting | |
I was at a wedding yesterday taking pictures when the camera (Canon R6II) locked up and became non responsive. The card writing light was stuck on and the camera would not respond to anything. I had to pull the battery.
Upon reinserting the battery and turning the camera on, I was given a "Card 1 cannot be accessed" error. It tried the other card slot as well as my other R6II body - still could not be read.
This morning I tried reading it in 3 different card readers on my computer - none could access the card.
All signs point to a completely dead card. Spontaneously. With no warning what so ever. I bought 2 of these cards brand new from Amazon 3 months ago and up until this point, both had been perfect. I've been using Sony SD cards in both my Canon and Sony bodies for probably 5 years now with zero issues. I've also never had a spontaneous SD card failure like this - ever. And this is in probably 15 years of shooting.
Accidents happen I guess. I'm just glad I had two simultaneous cards recording in the camera. Otherwise I would have lost quite a few images.
I plan on RMAing the card tomorrow with Sony and getting a replacement. No plans on getting rid of my other Sony cards. Hopefully this is just a fluke.
