This is not so much about the money. More important where are these bodies getting the service of a refurb. Are they going to a Sony repair facility or a Sony approved repair shop. Heck it could be an employee clean them up and stick in a box. Not sure I trust this
I wouldn’t be surprised if these are simply returns or opened/damaged box items. I bought several (non-photography related) “Amazon renewed” items and these were just that, damaged box items still in like new condition.
Another option would be that Amazon is getting refurbs from Sony.
Here is one of the reviews posted on Amazon’s website (accessible via the link in my original post): “I was skeptical about purchasing a 'renewed' a1 camera at a discounted price from a brand new one, crazy thing is, this body I got has never been used! straight out of the box, first thing I wanted to do was check the shutter count to see how used this renewed camera would be, and it had no clicks on it.”
Luckily, these “renewed” items are covered by Amazon’s standard return policy so if something doesn’t seem right, one can always return it for free.
