The thumbnails of the gallery pages show weird crops of the photos (e.g. vertical crop of a horizontal image). Some of the crops are so extreme that the full screen image appears downscaled compared to the thumbnail. Of course, the thumbnail layout looks nice but being so large and so heavily cropped they don't help with navigation and don't represent the images very well.

I think it might also be a good idea to post a portrait of yourself in the bio. Of course, art is a personal endeavour, so I can't help but want to know more about the artist behind the work.

I think you should consider having the photos on the front page scroll automatically, like slide show. If people want to browse through photos manually, of course that is what the dedicated gallery pages are for.

On your title page under your name you say photography. That to me sounds like you are available for work for money. I would change it to photographs. Otherwise looks good on my Ipad.

In general, a contact page with a form should not have other identifying information on it like phone or email. Those are grabbed by bots to be put on scam/phishing/spam lists.

Nowhere on your site does it indicate that you offer services besides stock photos (which aren't arranged through your site it seems), so I'm not sure why such personal contact info is needed to be openly given away.

A design niggle: your logo and category font completely clash with the rest of the site design. For simplicity, your logo is a sans serif, somewhat "futuristic" font while the rest is script or serif'd. It's very jarring from an aesthetic point of view.

Final point, presented with respect...the photo you posted in this thread, taken from your landscapes page, is a headscratcher of a photo and is not representative of the rest of your work.

Someone put a whole lot of time into that site!

Way above my skillset for sure. Very easy to navigate and arranged well.

Sorry, but like the image you posted here, I see nothing appealing about most of your photos. They are like random snapshots with no point of interest.

e.g. The image you have posted above. What do you think makes it appealing or interesting? The outline of the foreground is not sharp and you have not even removed sensor dust spots. Many of the images are not sharp, have excessive noise, and incorrect white balance.

Sorry, but you asked, and that is JMO.

Hey there Tom! Overall site's looking good! One comment I have (and take it with a grain of salt - I've just been working on my site and SEO constantly the last year or so and learned this tip)

You may want to consider to either tighten up the white space underneath your logo on each page OR shorten up the height of the header images on your pages (i.e. contact me). So that there is either text or white space/objects visible below it. When an image ends at the "scroll" of the page (whether it be mobile or desktop) it can psychologically make the user believe its the end of the page and that they don't need to keep scrolling/there isn't anything else below.

Look at the difference between your galleries page and your contact page on desktop. Your galleries page has some white space under the header image while the contact page does not. That white space *can* make us believe there is more below and to keep scrolling.

example of when I mean - look at where things fall on the "scroll" or "fold" on my site: Pittsburgh Wedding Photographer

*Again take it with a grain of salt* just an idea/suggestion!

P.S. great work!!

I like the look of the site but when I’m on the home page and look at the thumbnail images there isn’t anything that tells me to click on the image to see more. It also doesn’t tell me what category each image represents. The main image you have for landscape real doesn’t show that this might be a landscape gallery. Sorry, but the landscape images as well as some others you are showing, aren’t ones that would be considered top notch and anything of special interest. Some are also more architectural rather than landscape.

My feeling is there are not many photos for such a nice looking website. Is this it? Will it become populated with more shots soon? I am uncertain as to the point of it, since there are so few images and that would mean people will not bother to come back to it.

However having said this, you may well be doing it essentially to please yourself which is just fine. It is also very hard to have a website that is really striking, particularly when there are so many millions of images out there.

Robin: You hit it! The site was designed as a "first iteration" using a small portion of my images from the last forty years. Others will be added later this year (& based on comments, some will be dropped!).

Secondly, yes it is mostly for my own enjoyment. Collecting the pics, choosing the graphics, text, writing the bio & selecting quotations were an exercise for me. I've learned a lot, have a greater respect for graphic designers & web designers + appreciate those on FM & elsewhere who've taken the time to comment/offer critiques.

Thank you, Robin.
