Selling my EF 500mm f/4 L IS. I've had the lens over a decade, but only used it occasionally (once or twice a year). The lens is in very good shape cosmetically, with only some minor paint wear on the body. Every mechanical functions are in perfect condition. Optically the lens is in excellent shape, not only there is no marks on the lens elements, it is also very clean. What truly makes this copy stand out is its optical performance. It is truly exceptional. I just did some tests a couple days ago, and it has nearly no discernible degradation of sharpness even with the RF 2x extender attached. I recently got a 500 f/4 version II lens from MPB, and surprisingly it actually been outperformed by this version one copy I have. The lens from MPB probably does not represent a sharp copy of the version II, but it tells us that a top copy of the version I could outperform an average copy of the version II. For a lens of this caliber, copy variation is probably the dominant differential factor of the performance. I included some 100% crop of my comparison between the version I and version II, also with the RF 1.4X and RF 2.0x extenders. Original RAW files are available upon request.
The sale includes the lens with its original hood, hood cap, rear cap, drop in filter and the original hard case. Also included is a high quality Jobu lens foot.
The price includes insured shipping within CONUS. I can only accept non-fee PayPal for this item. However, if you are a well-established member, I could ship the lens first, and you only need to pay the actually shipping cost at first. You can make the rest of the payment (with the original shipping cost deducted from the total) after receiving and evaluating the lens. However, due to the high cost of shipping, the original shipping will not be refundable, and you would need to cover the return shipping as well. If you live in the New England area, we could meet and I will deduct $100 from the asking price for a cash transaction in person. |
