I've had to remind myself several times that I don't really like shooting 28mm and I should not buy this lens just because you guys are taking nice photos with it.

Hi Fred, what coding template do you use? Something that can be printed and cut out ?

Here it looks coded to the Leica 28/1.4 lux:

I acquired a new Techart LM-EA9 today as my previous one had issues. This AF adapter pairs nicely with the Voigtlander 28mm f/1.5 Nokton, particularly for close-up shots.

The adapter extends the lens an extra 4.5mm, allowing it to focus even closer than the default 0.5m minimum focus distance. Autofocus is quick, even on the older A7R II camera. It's a good choice if you need autofocus with this lens.

Take a look at these example photos captured in overcast lighting:
(Some images at f/2 and others at f/2.8)

I love using the Techart LM-EA9 as a way of decreasing focus distance. It seems that some lenses can be decreased more than others but love the effect.

I was surprised that AF was snappy even with the A7R II. I had been using the adapter on the A9 and A7IV before.

Wide-angle lenses offer higher magnification compared to telephoto lenses when used with Techart's 4.5mm extension (or when using an extension tube). So, you'll notice more magnification with 21-35mm lenses compared to 75mm+ lenses. This difference in magnification could be why you noticed that some lenses show more pronounced results than others.

Love these shots Bob. Mainly considering this lens to use with my M10M and these images of yours may have just sealed the deal.

Right now, I'm using a template created by @1bwana1, and it's really great, but I'm not certain if it's still available. You can check out the discussion about it on this thread:
https://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/1748737

Also, there are some templates available for printing online. Here are a couple of links:

Nice, and if I understand, this is directly on the existing flange (I think it's called the flange?) and not an additional piece needed?

Following from @fredmiranda post above, I mounted the Voigtlander 28/1.5 onto my Sony A1 with the Techart LM-EA9, turned the lens to minimum focus for focusing closer than minimum focus. This lens does extremely well in terms of sharpness and contrast at these settings.

I'm liking these. Does that last one ... is it showing the direction of field curvature, as different planes / off axis on the lens are in focus / oof?

I think it's more that I was not exactly centered in the plane when I took the photo. I believe I was easily off center a bit which would explain what you're seeing, I think. This was just a quick handheld shot.

I tried mine a couple days ago on the LMEA-7 with good results on an a7r2. Perhaps simplistic, but this lens has good contrast and sharpness at MFD, so at the Techarts MFD + 28/1.5 MFD files were good. That’s been my general experience. I just don’t like using the LMEA-7 on account of size, so I use a close focus helicoid always. Like most of my RF glass.

Since there already have been lots of images posted here showing sharpness, rendering/bokeh etc. of the 28mm Nokton, I have done a vignetting test comparing it to the 28mm Ultron II.

In the composite image below, we see not only a marked vignetting difference at f/2, the overall exposure (hence transmission) is much better in the Nokton. As expected, the difference evens out when stopping down. The difference in exposure at f/4 and f/5.6 is minor, but at f/2, the Nokton is clearly brighter even in the center (230 vs 222 in 8-bit steps). I also note that the Ultron II has a weak but visible magenta tint towards the corners, while the Nokton has negligible color shift.

Contrast and saturation settings in post process will change the appearance in this kind of test, so please refer to this as a relative test only.

Excellent. Thanks for posting. Do you mind to compare your copies of the CV 28/1.5 and CV 28/2 in the mid zone? Specifically at the rule of 1/3rd’s at about 2-3 meters?

I ask because I am on the fence about keeping my 28/1.5 now, and I know my copy is centered, but I would just like some enforcement that my copy is behaving typically.

I went out with 6 different 28mm lenses with maximum apertures between f/1.2 and f/1.5 today ( @hanay78@ was also there to check out my A7rII UT):

I already compared the bokeh in seven different scenes and at different distances.

If anyone wants my advice: if you care about bokeh rendering, wait to see the results before you buy the VM 28mm 1.5.
It is a night and day difference between the VM and the Thypoch.

Excellent ... exactly what I was hoping to see.

Now, any chance you've got a Lux, Q and Cron, too.

Wishing for more, but even still ... very informative presentation.

'In consideration for use on digital cameras, the lens utilizes an optical design with 10 elements in 8 groups that suppresses color shifts around the image periphery.'

https://www.cosina.co.jp/voigtlander/en/vm-mount/nokton-vintage-line-28mm-f1-5-asphrical/

Much the same design complexity. I expect the extra asph surfacing is helping here. The Ultron 28/2 is just 2.5 years old. Onwards and upwards. ;=)

Nice set, Fred.

I've previously thought that this is what would happen if Zeiss and Leica had offspring. I guess in certain regard, the things learned from Zeiss and Leica lens designs, have combined to bring us to this point ... thus, it IS their offspring. Voigltander just happens to be the surrogate.
