Both camera and lens have the most recent firmware.
When powering the camera on, the focus hunts around a bit and then comes to rest at whatever position it was in when last used. When turning the camera off the focus hunts around a bit again and comes to a rest at infinity, or close to it.
It seems to me like some sort of "resting position", like an externally focusing lens would have, to make sure it is fully retracted when turned off. This seems pointless for an internally focusing lens, but whatever, this isn't the annoying part.
This behaviour also happens when pressing the playback button. Like so:
- playback button is pressed > focus hunts around and comes to rest near infinity, while this happens the screen stays black(~2 seconds), only after it's done the camera shows recorded images
- leaving the image playback and returning to liveview by any means causes the focus to hunt around again and then settle at whatever distance it was at before, this again causes the screen to stay black until finished
This does only happen on image playback, not when browsing the camera menu. Whether the camera is set to AF-S/C or M makes no difference. Pre-AF is disabled. I have updated the camera and lenses firmware and reset the camera.
I cannot imagine this being intentional, because it only seems to add what is essentially a "loading screen" to image playback. Can anyone reproduce this or tell me that this is intentional? Or if it isn't, tell me what I'm doing wrong?
