I got my hands on a Tamron 150-500 to try out with my A6700 today. A 200-600G I tried wouldn't reliably keep up focus with fast moving birds and such. probably a bad copy but still, a boat anchor I didn't enjoy using (in my old age). This Tamron seems so manageable. Solid but a good balance I could easily carry all day long. The focus on this Tamron is blazing fast and accurate and keeps up with fast moving subjects easily. Is also sharp at it's long end so no worries there. I found I pretty much didn't need anything longer then this 500mm range. It's 750 equivalent on this sensor.

Those images almost make it look like that copy of the lens is quite decentered. Way too much CA going on, despite looking sharp (in the center, at least).

But yes, Tamron's VXD motor is super fast. Love the original 70-180 with VXD on my A9. Instant focus, no matter what distance the subject is at. Good to know the A6700's AF is also excellent.

I made a difficult personal decision to send this guy back. I compared several samples of images taken with the 70-350G lens against this Tamron 150-500 and the Sony lens is essentially perfection where in some cases the Tamron's output is less then perfect in several ways. Yes indeed it has some CA. Focuses very quickly which is a good feature. But the optical results in the end are what made this decision.

Definitely a bad copy. The lens should be incredible in terms of IQ.

Does this Tamron zoom ring zoom in the same direction as Sony ?

Will this Tamron lens work with a 1.4 on the 6700 ? I know with Sigma it wont?

No the Tamron won't work with TC's. I never paid attention to the direction of the zoom honestly..

Could be who knows. I'm just tired of bad copies. Sent a Sony 200-600G back for it's own set of issues. I had a good copy back in January when I was using a A7RV. Oh well. I'll be waiting for the 180-600 Nikkor to come off of backorder for my Z9 and be done with all these trials.

I own the Tamron 150-500mm and it's indeed a great lens overall, I don't see any CA issue on mine. I use it on the A7RV, AF is reliable and works well for BIF. I have compared it with a 200-600 that I rented, the sharpness was very close at 500mm between the 2. The Tamron is easier to carry and can focus at a relatively close distance. The 200-600 gives the extra 100mm (only when the subject is far), no 15 fps limit with some cameras, and maybe a slightly better AF overall.
I managed to convince myself to stick with the Tamron until now but still considering to add the 200-600mm under the Christmas tree

Fboss. Strangely enough, I experienced a fairly well known issue where it is unreliable to focus quickly. I noted on the net a good number of folks that had this issue. Not the so called fixed issue with the A7RIV which was a completely different deal dealt with in a firmware update. It was quite annoying so I sent it back. Besides, it was far too much of a boat anchor to manage. The Tamron overcomes that at least. Guess I'm pretty fussy and it just didn't cut it for me. I'll just be patient to see what comes of the Nikkor 180-600. Who knows if I'll just tire of the wait and cancel. The B&H rep guessed it would be at least till June or later to see one.

I said I was still considering the 200-600. Well, I ordered it this morning. Will use it during a few months and will decide which one to keep 🙂
