I wanted to share a few images from this years Costa Rica Workshops. We had great activity, and such a successful Resplendent Quetzal shoot. To me, the Resplendent Quetzal is one of the most beautiful birds in the world, and watching it fly is a true treat. The diversity of Costa Rica always amazes me as you can see by this image set.

In addition to the stills, I shot a little high-speed video of the Quetzals, all with my Sony A1 at 240fps.

As the snow starts to fly at home, I’m already looking forward to escaping winter next February and joining my local guide as we host another trip to Costa Rica.

All images below shot with Nikon D850 or Sony A1. (What can I say, I love both). CC always welcome.

Fantastic Frames.. TFS Matt...

Last March, we did our first short trip to CR (3 days in Osa Peninsula and 2 days in the Savegre cloud forest region) and I cannot wait to go back again...

Looks like a wonderful trip Matt! I especially liked the splendid leaf frog and snowcap hummer. Watched your short video, and all I can say is how amazing the transformation from the "ugly duckling" stage is. I mean, they're not nearly as awkward as moorhen chicks, but the transformation to adult is night and day for your quetzals.

It's good to be back. When I'm hosting workshops, I don't do much posting, or social media as I believe my time should be spent with the guests. I don't have another workshop until February, so now it's time to work up images, and socialize a bit.

Looking forward to seeing everyone's images, especially the 'Best of' thread.

What can I say Matt, these images are incredible. The colors of the birds are gorgeous. Excellent! Costa Rica is on my list, I'll be close to Costa Rica in February, going to Belize.

Thank you ! The Quetzals were photographed in the Savegre area, just higher up in elevation. I love going every year, and every year is different.

Thanks Eric. The splendid leaf frog was certainly a treat as it's not a very common frog (but it doesn't get the repect it deserves as the red-eyed tree frog is such an iconic frog for CR.

Thanks Jim. Everyone loves the frogs ! I go to a few place to photograph them, and even the guests who don't care for frogs end up loving the photos of them.

Thanks Dave. I used to use a Chronos 2.1 for high speed video, but the Sony A1 does such a good job, and so much easier.
